Fri 9 May - JP Rokacz - Birmingham
Flew into Fowlmere (EGMA) on 06 May '08. The aifield is quite easy to find, with the beautifully-kept grass runway 07/25 standing out well against the countryside, as do the large hangar and the aircraft parked outside. The frequency is 135.7, but was not manned, so blind calls it was! The wind (North-Easterly) favoured runway 07 - quite wide so appears bigger than its 700m or so in length, but that's plenty for most light aircraft. It was of course no problem for the Archer - stopped right after the intersection! Excellent surface. It proved no problem either for the Beech Bonanza that landed next. Noise abatement is just common sense - don't overfly the nearby villages.

A honesty box in the "C" house/portacabin allows to pay the landing fee (10 pounds for an SEP - a bit on the steep side for an unlicensed airfield). However, try as I might, I couldn't find a log, so I guess my landing fee is the only evidence I was ever there!

I would recommend to keep a fairly tight circuit - Duxford is litterally next door (see picture), and while there isn't always a great deal of airborne activity there, the long tarmac runway might suggest otherwise. Better not bust through their ATZ!

27 Sep 03 - Malcolm Bird - Steeple Morden
Small airfield run by Modern Air (Derick Gunning and Anna McDowell). Grass strip is well maintained. Close to Duxford ATZ who should be called before joining circuits (northern side) for Folwmere. Note Fowlmere Air/Ground is now 135.7.
