Surprisingly easy to gain access through the Danger Area, with clearance and radar control granted in a few minutes. They said on the ground that they've never had to turn visitors away, but there might be a few minutes delay at worst. Friendly and welcoming reception. Reasonable landing fee. Little to do at the airfield itself, but glorious beaches about 2 miles away. Free tea/coffee available but no cafe or other facilities.

I flew into Aberporth on Thursday and had a great welcome - it turned out that the operator on duty had been stationed at Eastern Radar at the same time as me! My landing was not one of my best, but he said they would only charge me for the first four bounces... They had halted the UAV flying for my arrival - this was the most worrying aspect for me prior to getting there, as I had to delay my departure from Jersey due to weather, but when I phoned up to tell them, they said they would make sure the UAV was on the ground well before my intended arrival. On departing on Saturday, the welcome was again excellent, and as a low-hours PPL it was super to have the Notams, TAFs and Metars obtained for me, calls made to Swansea to check activity, Cardiff to make sure they had my flight plan, and even a cuppa before departure - mind you, I should have refused it with a 2.6 hour flight in front of me, but that's another lesson learnt!

Flew in as pax in a RV-4 from Gloucester on Bank holiday Sunday 29th May 2005. Warm welcome and a cup of tea waiting for us. A nice venue for fly-ins with a large clubhouse in a beautiful peaceful part of West Wales. Don't let the range danger area put you off; It's closed on weekends.

Visited West Wales this Sunday 6-March 05. Very warm welcome and great scenery on the way. Landing £10 and £4 circuits but got that reduced with uplift of fuel. If you go in the week, the danger area is active, altough still no problems getting in to land, weekend able to have a nice trip along the coast
