Flew into Andreas for the weekend fly-in during TT fortnight in an RV6. Turned out that there was nobody organising the fly-in when we arrived and no-one on the radio giving airfield info despite the 30 or so aircraft that flew in that weekend. The airfield owner (a friendly and polite lady) was there however to collect landing fees, parking fees and camping fees (total £52) and to run people into Ramsey (for a fee of £10 and £20 on another occasion even though taxi firms only charged £10)!
However the runway (11-29) was truly appalling as it comprised of broken up tarmac and was covered with stones some as big as your fist and did not appear to have been swept on any section despite assurances that it would be. As a result the spats on our aircraft were substantially damaged and have had to be removed to be repaired. Other aircraft that flew in seemed to have suffered a similar fate. It would have been cheaper in the end to fly into Ronaldsway.
