“ | Called in at Andrewsfield for lunch on return flight from Monewden
Friendly welcome as ever, runways in very good condition but the taxiway was a little rough and needed care in the Jabiru which is a bit prone to bouncing when taxying
In my view without doubt the best ham egg and chips available at an airfield in the south of the UK - and I've tried them all! Locally sourced ham and great chips.
Andrewsfield is an easy airfield to find and get into, don't be put off by the proximity to Stansted, just keep below the stated max heights.if you have a transponder you will be given a code when you call up.
Reasonable landing charge and fuel available. Well worth a visit ” |
“ | Flew in saturday 25th as had a free voucher from Pilot mag.
Runway 27R was quite soft and there was quite a bit of mud about but it was getting a lot of use which was great to see. The only down side was the cafe which couldn't cope with the food orders with us waiting nearly an hour for food and it didn't look that busy to me. Apart from that it was a great trip out though next visit we'll take our own food and just buy a cup of tea. ” |
“ | I hadn't visited Andrewsfield for a couple of years but I'm pleased to say that it is still the same friendly laidback place I remember. I joined from the Haverhill VRP and squawked 0013,the Stansted listening squawk, and didn't have any problems despite quite a strong gusty wind. The cafe is still good value and the runway seems to be holding up well. Takeoff info was a bit confusing "Runway 27 Left with a right hand circuit" but otherwise a good day out. ” |
“ | Visited Andrewsfield to fly their Super Cub (first taildragger flight for me) - Lovely place, nice food, welcoming atmosphere, Bob Gardner who instructed me was a real gent and very knowledgeable with a can-do attitude. Reasonably priced too. Would recommend a visit. Their Super Cub is in great condition too. ” |
“ | Visited Andrewsfield from Duxford (on route back to Fairoaks) on Saturday. Dispite the close proximity to Stanstead quite easy to find and get into, we approached via Havinghill VRP stearing well clear of our Stanstead friends, which could a little un-nerving due to the complex air space around that area.Suggest anyone visiting for the first time have a good look at a chart and maybe give Andrewsfield a call. Very friendly welcome and the cafe/Bar served up a good selection of home fare.
The runway was a little bumpy & slippery as we landed after a down pour, but was holding up well for a grass strip.
Great little airfield, and well worth a visit, landng fee £10 for a PA 28
Thank you Andrewfield ” |
“ | Flew into Andrewsfield today for the first time. Joined using a 700ft circuit onto runway 09L and proved very straight forward with good A/G communication.
Ample parking and runway in good condition considering the time of year. Club house facilities were friendly and very busy, although restaurant was not open due to refurbishment, however we managed to get a cuppa. Landing fees for microlights are £10.00 (same as singles), which seems a bit steep compared to what I am used to but nevertheless a very pleasant airfield to visit and will be back. ” |
“ | Flew into Andrewsfield on Sunday 6th Jan runway was in poor condition being very wet and muddy aircraft covered in mud facilities good. Grass reinforcement on taxiway very good ” |
“ | Flew in to Andrewsfield last Friday and I'm pleased to say that it has maintained it's standard as a nicely maintained GA airfield. The cafe is pleasant and well patronised by locals as well as aviators and the landing fee was acceptable at £8. There's a Mystere jet decaying slowly near the parking area and a possible "gotcha" is that the vehicle access road runs quite close and parallel to the taxiway. Overall a nice place for the "£100 coffee" trip. ” |
“ | Straightforward, a bit muddy after significant rain. Good cafe. ” |
“ | My daughter and I paid a visit to Andrewsfield on Easter Monday in our club Tomahawk. I had been informed that the airfield is hard to spot in the fairly featureless terrain of Essex, however if arriving from the south, there is a distinctive row of tall trees almost paralell to the runway. The airfield seems very well run and has a very nice bar\ clubhouse. ” |
“ | Flew with a colleague to Andrewsfield today for the first time. Single grass runway on 27 / 09 with LH and RH runways.
PPR by telephone is necessary and it is worth noting that the airfield is in the Stanstead airpsace so it is necessary to stay below 1500 ft QNH in the Andrewsfield LFA. Circuit height is a low 700 ft aal.
Friendly airfield with a small clubhouse that serves good value hot meals. Normal landing fee is £8. ” |
“ | Andrewsfield is in the midst of rural North Essex, not much around for miles. The clubhouse is atmospheric, with lots photos and other memorabilia from when the place was a USAAf base for marauders in WW2. There is a bar and a great selection of hot and cold food served most days, all served up with a very friendly welcome from the staff. ” |
