Bagby Airfield (EGNG)
A friendly airfield in Yorkshire that is home to around 50 SEP planes and a few microlights.
The tree and cables that were on the approach to R15 have been removed now. PPR required in Winter for surface condition briefing.
PLEASE NOTE: Overflying Bagby village is expressly forbidden when going to or from Bagby. The airfield is being hassled by neighbours and the local authority. Please respect this routing and help prevent further problems for Bagby.

“ | Flew into Bagby on 6 September to arrange for sign-off of maintenance paperwork with Graham Fox Engineering. As it was likely to take a few hours for the paperwork (and checks), my wife and the greyhounds came along for a walk. A lovely flight over the moors from Blackpool past Settle and over the York plain. Good service from Warton (well into Yorkshire – much further cover than I expected), and Leeming approach who arranged transit of RAF Topcliffe’s airspace. An RA(T) was in force around Topcliffe’s ATZ and this made the base turn for 06 at Bagby fairly tight and I only sighted the runway late and after passing through the extended centre-line, however, there was still enough space to ‘jink’ back on track. The grass runway is on a slope up from 06 and down from 24, so, on a day with little wind, we landed uphill and took off downhill.
Not a lot at the airfield, but there is a small and friendly clubhouse with hot and cold drinks, Ice Cream (!) and snacks. The pub we visited on our last flight in a few years ago has closed and was being refurbished, (not clear if it will re-open as a pub or something else), so nowhere else to go in the village for refreshment. However, there were some lovely walks nearby which the greyhounds loved and the lovely churchyard had several benches and stunning views over the York plain, so we may go again with a picnic.
Friendly and a nice place to visit, but you might want to take a picnic – the views are impressive. The £5.00 landing fee is ‘cheap as chips’ and the runway in good condition with some matting reinforcement in key areas and concrete at the intersection of the runway and taxi-ways. We’ll come back again, but with a picnic next time. ” |
