Visited Beccles (EGSM) from Netherthorpe (EGNF) on 30/03/2017 in G-ROLY a C172 based at Netherthorpe. The route had been planned however on arrival at Netherthorpe there was some work going on with the fuel and we could not get an answer from Beccles on the phone for PPR. Prior to giving up we tried one last time and a friendly guy at Beccles sorted us out with PPR and gave us extra info on the procedures is parachuting was planned.
We flew out over Lincolnshire and then over the Wash and around the coast and for an arrival onto runway 27 which is part grass part tarmac. It was quite turbulent on approach and wind which was coming in over the local buildings affecting both lift and sink on short final. This led to what was possibly my worst landing in the 172 for quite some time! Although it was still safe on the main gear and the actual touchdown was quite smooth.
We were greeted by friendly Ops crew who provided us with free drinks and we purchased Snickers bars as well. Tea and coffee is provided in the landing fee. The airfield was quite busy with visiting aircraft and it is not hard to see why as the welcome was very nice.
Another airfield for the logbook!
s this.

G-EEGU parked at Beccles with fresh paint. I popped in to see Rainer Forster, ex. Norfolk and Norwich Aero Club of Swanton Morley, where I learned to fly in 1989.
