“ | Beccles has had a complete make over with a new building and cafe. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, airfield manager to book in, all in the cafe, everyone couldn't do enough to help and the detail to keeping everything clean....meticulous! Even clean the book in pen after use.
Food fresh and good value.
Can't praise this place enough. I am in an aircraft group and went because other members gave the same recommendation.
Keep it up Beccles, I will now be a regular. Also because of the parachute centre there you have entertainment watching them land next to you if operating.

“ | Really transformed in last 12 months. £10 SEP landing fee included tea. Very friendly and new owners making a real effort with buildings, cafe etc. Imaginative use of aicraft parts for fence, tables too. Plans for further improvements. Recommended. ” |
“ | Awed by mug of Gold Blend appearing at sign-in. Spoiling GA tradition of a qurter-full barrel of crusty generic powder with a damp spoon in it. (too friendly to mention the hard-to-find tea contribution jar) Three Horseshoes B&B pub serves food, about 10-15min footpath stroll over runway. Next to the old church tower visable on horizon; (church unlockable) Perhaps Somme-style mud some times? Intensive parachuting on both side of runway, so zone closed & no engines run on release. ” |
“ | I have now flown into Beccles in several different types, 150's, 172's and PA18 amongst a few. So far I cannot fault the experience, half grass and half concrete but the transition is ok.Outstanding welcome and lots of friendly banter and advice. Always got a good cuppa and bisuits, food was available from the Skydive cafe, on days they were not open there is a great cafe called Posh Pigs down the road. Avgas and A1 on site and lovely people. ” |
“ | The best welcome I have had at another airfield to date. Was offered Free tea, coffe and biscuits and the people were very nice. The location is very good, with landscaped gardens to sit and enjoy a chat in. On departing the airfield I had a few engine problems and had to return and was met with more tea & coffee and lots of help to rectify my engine problem. As we were heading on for lunch which we had now missed the Beccles team took us to the local shops so we ould buy some lunch! The runway is half grass half tarmac but I thought it was in pretty good condition. The A/G service was great giving very clear instructions regarding the parchute jumps and movements etc I would recommend Beccles as a place to stop for any pilots and will be going back soon myself. ” |
“ | Great welcome and certainly a nice cuppa. Cannot comment on the runway as I was flying a helicopter. No problems. Will be back. ” |
“ | Flew in to Beccles yesterday as a friend was performing a charity sky dive from there. The A/G radio service was great and held us over Halesworth disused while a jump was in progress. The runway is a little odd being half grass / half concrete but it wasn't a problem. A very warm welcome with a nice coffee ! Will certainly be back soon ! ” |
“ | The People at Beccles could not have looked after us stranded people on Fly UK 2011 any more than they did.A Fantastic place to visit and will call back soon.Cheers All. Paul G-CCDW ” |
“ | What a friendly place to visit, nothing was too much trouble. Great asset to the GA flying community. Well worth a visit. Poor weather conditions on our UK tour made it necessary for overnight stop, they helped with accommodation. ” |
“ | far too expensive. north weald is miles better and free. it's a bit of a joke really that airfield can charge such high fees. we should take a few lessons from our neighbours (french) where most airfields are free and for a fives you are treated like royalty. let's face it it's a couple of words on the radio and use of a rollecoaster strip, not much more.... disappointed that at the top of the agenda is cashing in on ga pilots! ” |
“ | This is a great little airfield and about as friendly as they get.
Overhead join i you are a visitor in order to ensure that you ae over the airfield and not one of the many disused runways in the area (including one only a mile away),
Very easy to find, avgas availabe. well worth visiting.
Be even better if they do start serving food.

“ | That little airfield is FANTASTIC.!!!!!! I flew in there at the weekend and thought it was GREAT..!! they told me they have plans to have food and drink there very soon (end of this year). I must say I have never been to an Airfield this frendly before. Tea and coffee with biscuits were offered before I even had a chance to sign in. They also had a wifi hotspot so will take my laptop next time I go. Ok the landing fee was £15 compairing this to most airfields It sounds expensive but I think it is value for money. I could fly into Norwich and pay the same or more and only be met by a grumpy customs guy and no welcome.
After flying to Beccles I thought this is what aviation is all about chatting with friendly like minded people. Great garden area would advise to take cash as no card machine and also visit the swan was very cheap and excellent food. ” |
“ | flew in to Beccles on the 22nd May and a better reception you couldn't ask for, not just a cup of tea either. In the spirit of "not being too prepared and you'll find out what people are really like", we hadn't booked accomodation for the night and numerous phone calls by the Marcia could find no room at any Inn. "Well, you can stay in the caravan just here." says Marcia. Torch provided with directions to the pub we were very happy. Aircraft inspection in the morning found a problem and Rainer opens the workshop and with Marcus helping the situation is rescued allowing us to make our flight home. Lovely place, lovely people. ” |
“ | Now bite me in the tail for saying this, but £15 landing fee to land on a runway of this standard, I am disgusted.
The tea was free, and the guy friendly enough - but what a waste! I requested wind conditions 3 times, only got it on late final, 15kts wind from 180, so "real cross wind"
I paid £16 at Shoreham - and in future I prefer paying a couple of pounds extra and not landing on a humpty bumpty airfield during nav trips. ” |
“ | I flew a friend to Beccles from Fairoaks on Saturday to pick up a R44, went via Senenoaks and then direct NE to Beccles. Farnborough LARs Eastt and North provided me with excellent service to just noth of Norwich ( well done Farnbrough) Beccles had 3 runways once part of one ( half Grass/tarmac) once you have extablished where to land it was really straight forward. A/G was really good and frendly as was the welcome ( guess they were please to see a visiting aircraft). Plenty of tea/coffee but NO cafe, shame really as it would have been nice to have lunch in their lovely garden area. Landing fees and fuel were on the high side and they do not accept plastic in any form, cheques or hard cash only ( You've been warned). dispite that a really chilled airfield and warm frendly people. Give it a go , I will be going back some time , however I will take by own Pick Nick.
Thank you Beccles. ” |
“ | Flew in to Beccles last week. It was initially quite hard to spot the runway as it is to the East of the disused section which shows up rather better than the combined concrete/grass runway currently in use. The clubhouse is a rather scruffy but welcoming portacabin and a cup of tea was on offer as soon as I landed. The atmosphere was very friendly and as the only licensed airfield in Suffolk it deserves your support. Apparently there is a very good fish restaurant nearby so I'll have to go back and check it out. ” |
“ | Were passing through the UK yesterday and landed at Beccles. Very warm welcome! £8 landing fee for a SEP <1 tonne. Also a cup of tea/coffee on arrival into the bargain. I Will have to visit there again next time I am in the area. After departure we heading south and were cleared through both Stansted and City zone for a direct onward flight. Excellent service from both Eccles A/G and the NATS controllers! ” |
