Flew into Calais on Sunday 19th February, from North Weald, the airfield very easy to find as right on the coast, Lille handed us over with about 10 miles to run, ATC were helpfull, and gave good joining instructions. After landing I paid the very reasonable 9 Euro landing fee and went for lunch in the recently opened café, food and drink was fine, service was excellent, (by an excellent english speaker, from England)!! You have to ask ATC for engine start up and taxi, but otherwise a very easy departure, we could see the white cliffs as soon as we were airborne. A great destination, that with the fuel drawback allowance is a very competativley priced trip, highly reccomended.

Visited last week. Owner of restaurant very friendly and helpful. Restaurant good value, 2 lunches with drinks 9 Euros! If you enjoy quiet countryside, a walk to Marck (12 mins from airport) is pleasant with a large supermarket here that is for the French (not a Brit in site, except us) and good prices as it is not commercialised for Channel Ferry Hoppers. Very little road traffic about as well. Take a day there for a cross Channel flight and a pleasant short or longer walk with lunch either at the airport or out and about.

Excellent runway and facilities, and the landing fee is half that of Le Touquet. They have recently re-opened their cafe style bar, where you can get an excellent meal at a reasonable price.

Nice airfield with a good long runway – but very very quiet when I visited recently at the weekend – almost dead – the opposite of Le Touquet. Helpful staff. You need to give 24 hours' prior notice for Customs, by fax to the Dunkerque Customs office.

The airport restaurant has now closed permanently.

If you want a quick clear through into France, Calais is a good choice. Dead easy to find and we were in and out in fifteen minutes. Coming back through took thirty but twenty of that was drinking a café au lait in the bar. Efficient, knowledgeable and courteous staff. Tower couldn't have been more helpful. Reminded me of Lulsgate before it became Bristol 'International'. So relaxing and not a yellow jacket in sight. I'll be back!
