Very helpful ATC, £15 landing fee. Great bacon butties, v pretty fuel pumps (see photo)! Newly refurbished (grass) runways clearly marked and settling in.

I have generally given the Goodwood ATZ a wide birth, being a relative newbie to aerial adventures and considering it must surely be a busy aerodrome. Whilst this is undoubtedly true during the festival of speed and other events, midweek on a sunny day it was quiet.

Guidance for the uninitiated online is somewhat lacking in comparison to some other destinations, but all airfields work broadly the same and Chichester Goodwood is no different. Landing on 06 with it’s displaced threshold, the solar farm is a helpful visual clue in an unfamiliar circuit with lots of grass & 3 runways. At 1,000 ft. QFE all becomes very clear. ATC were a delight to talk to.

A drawback with an airfield that can clearly take hundreds of aircraft is that the scale of it’s infrastructure is a magnitude greater than most other grass facilities. There were dozens of parked aircraft too, all sadly waiting to be flown by the affluent commuters, presumably working hard in London. My parking spot was on the end of all these aircraft, equidistant between the control tower and the end of runway 32. It was a bit of a stroll back to the control tower (past what must be the prettiest fuel station on any airfield). On arrival I was informed that I needed to find Mel beyond the big green hangar. Well good luck folks. Mel’s illusive office/facilities with complementary tea and coffee were back were I left my a/c at the south east end of the parking, in a Formula 1 style semi mobile hospitality suite separated from the parking area by a nice white rope. Well worth the trip and the walk. A very interesting place to visit - particularly for any petrol heads.

Landed at Goodwood on 27th June, we were three aircraft intending to visit the flyin at Avranches, France. A warm front which had cleared UK was still causing 400ft cloudbase in France, so we had to nightstop at Goodwood. We were given a brochure with hotels and B+B to choose from and found the Horse and Groom pub a couple of miles from the airfield. We were helped to book a local taxi firm with a minibus for eight of us and stayed at the pub. Food was first class and a lovely quiet village location. Staff at Goodwood were most helpful in faxing GAR forms, flight plans etc. The briefing room is well equiped with all blank forms required, computer for live weather etc. The airfield is well looked after, free chocks for visitors, rope tie downs to a static parking line. You can retire to the pub knowing the aircraft will be the right way up when you get back in the morning. The facilities justify the landing fee i think, it's a lovely place to sit on the decking and watch others fly, or pop over to the trackside to see bikes/cars using the track. Thanks to all at Goodwood, we made France the next day and had a good weekend coming back to Liverpool via Alderney for duty free fuel!
