Chirk Airfield
Chirk aerodrome is still open. As at July 2013, Chirk Aerodrome is used for car boot sales at the weekends. However, it is still open for visitors with PPR during the week. Friendly people run the site, and they made no charge for my landings and overnight stop. There are no marked runways, but the best line is 01 / 18 running along the west of the site, which is good grass. 01 is uphill slightly, or choose your own line depending on wind, trying to avoid the gravel tracks.

“ | Went there at the end of last summer. Luckily I went there by car as I was looking for a local airfield to call in to whilst visiting relatives. There were no signs that the area is still operating as an airfied. The ground is rough and has sheep grazing on it. A little mouch around did find an old delapidated flex wing microlight parked round the back of some buldings, certainly did not look like it had flown in some years. There is a steep down slope on 01 and the site is now used as a car boot sale site. Glad I went by car first for a look. ” |
