“ | Friendly, great runways, good service. They let me overnight in the hangar. Free landing with fuel uplift ” |
“ | Visited Leeds East this weekend 2 Sept 17. I rang for PPR as usual but was advised to just call on route. They couldn't have been more welcoming. Unfortunately there is a cafe, but its not open at the weekends which is a shame as I'm sure it would attract more visitors however, this will not stop be from going again. This airfield is well worth visiting. Landing fee £15. ” |
“ | Flew into Leeds East (AKA Church Fenton) 08/10/15 from Durham, A/G radio not always manned at present so made blind calls for overhead join R/W 24RH. 1800M of pristine tarmac complimented by immaculate taxiways and grounds (ex RAF). Staff couldn’t be more helpful and friendly, cheapest fuel in UK at £1.50L with landing fee (usually £15) waived when you take 50L+ avgas or jet-fuel. Nice cafe on site with full all-day menu, excellent value for money and again the staff couldn’t be more helpful and friendly. The location is good for access to Leeds, York and the surrounding areas, finally the new owner is a fellow aviator and has great plans for this airport, could this become the best GA friendly airport in the UK? Hope so. Well worth a visit. ” |
“ | Flew into Church Fenton (Leeds East as it is now) on 22 September. What a friendly airfield it is. Café opens up from 23 September and I went in and spoke with them. Looks like it is going to be perfect for pilots - they will call it the old RAF term: "the Feeder". A very friendly chap made me a brew in the absence of the café and I have to say what a very friendly pace Leeds East is. As previous reviews have mentioned, the plans for this airfield are great. The new offices are in use as were the new loos and very impressive it all is too. Lots of work going on on the infrastructure as well as preparing for the Yorkshire Air Show due to take place on Saturday 26th September. Painters have just repainted the "CF" pundit code and when I said I wanted to get a picture of it, they offered to move out of the way and suggested I went up the ladders of the not yet in use Control Tower - see the pictures. Great runways and taxi-ways but as yet no ATC - just blind calls. Landing fee is £15 for a SEP and fuel is £1.50/litre including VAT. This airfield deserves our support and with the café just about to open, I think it will become a regular destination for many flyers - I know that I will be going again soon! Must find out if there are any good walks nearby for the greyhounds....... ” |
“ | Visited Church Fenton for an ATSOCAS seminar in a PA-28; found the airfield very easily, with an excellent service from Radar and Tower as expected. Welcomed by excellent staff, and provided transport across to the main buildings for the seminar.
Airfield was very accommodating for a civilian GA pilot. ” |
“ | Hi there Damian, thanks for your mention. What do you mean flying those Plank machines? If you let me know the date for next year we will come en-mass, hopefully with Beagle Pups and Cessna 150s. Regarding the visit in June this year we all really enjoyed it and were very well looked after and we were really pleased to show people round our 'PLANKS' sorry aeroplanes. ” |
“ | I regularly fly at no.9 AEF,RAF Church Fenton with the Air Training Corps, and it is a fantastic airfield.Proof of this is that Church Fenton is the base for YUAS (yorkshire universities air squadron), and home of the previously mentioned 9AEF.
Both fly the Grob 115 Tutor. The two runways at Fenton are both tarmac, 06/24 and 15/33.Always home to elementary flying training squadrons, Church Fenton is nowadays a very quiet, almost dead airfield, but remains a wonderful little place.Sherburn-in-elmet airfield is in the MATZ,and is supplied with weather and radar information by church fenton. Church Fenton, A lovely Yorkshire Aerodrome. ” |
