Visited Cranfield(EGTC) from Netherthorpe (EGNF) on 28/08/2014 in G-ROLY a C172 based at Netherthorpe. This was an IFR flight via EME, LE, NN and CIT NDBs before completing the procedural ILS DME approach to runway 21 at Cranfield.
We had pre booked the instrument slot the day before.
Upon landing we were guided to the parking area with the help of the very friendly ATC officer. We then visited the on site café for a coffee and snacks. This is a large airfield with many flying schools and has great facilities. Having their own instrument approaches makes for a great training environment. The fees were some of the cheapest in the country at only £5 per landing, this is a bargain.
Yes, the airfield may not be all shiny and new but there are plenty of aircraft that call it home including jets and commercial operations and the café is great too with free wifi for all.
I had actually visited Cranfield by road whilst sitting my first round of ATPL exams earlier this year but I had never been in by air.
We will certainly be back if they keep these excellent prices going!
