    In brief...

17 Jun 09: Crosland Moor runway

    David E Newington - Kirkheaton
Croslandmoor - runway being extended - not sure if still open or not

    8 Jun 09: EGND

    David Hardaker - Bradford

EGND hasn't been the designator for a long time. There isn't one although other sites list it.

Visited Crosland Moor (EGND) on Monday 24th June 2013 in G-ROLY a C172 based at Netherthorpe. It was the last leg of the day after visiting Wickenby, Beverley and Breighton. There was no response on the phone for PPR so we called the mobile number mentioned on the website and spoke to a chap who said he was not at the airfield but could see it from a nearby hill. We expected a slightly more difficult approach and landing compared to normal and it did not disappoint. Even with the displaced threshold on 25 we encountered pretty bad wind sheer resulting in sink and a prompt go-around. The 2nd approach I did slightly faster and aimed beyond even the displaced threshold and things were much better. The runway comes up pretty quick to meet you with the slope, slowed down promptly though! To be fair it was rather breezy however I expect it is quite a lot of the time as it is on the top of a hill! The caravan was open (see our photo) and you could help yourself to a drink with the payment honesty jar provided. There was no landing fee as we had a reciprocal landing arrangement with Netherthorpe. Other movements on the airfield included 2 horses and a couple of cars, you get the idea. All in all a rather quirky airfield and maybe one to visit on a less breezy day next time. Unfortunately the camera battery failed on final so no video to show the landing.
