Currock Hill is home to Northumbria Gliding Club. This is a fully affiliated BGA club based at Currock hill which is a grass field of some 88 acres.
The two seater and single seat gliders are launhed by winch and Aerotow. The aircraft used to tow gliders, the tug, is a Piper Pawnee 235. Aerotow operations are carried out on the aerotow strip at the top of the field, which is a grass runway 24/06. In prevailing westerly operations gliders are winch launched from the East side of the field, off the aerotow strip and in an easterly wind gliders are launched on 06 on the aerotow strip.
