“ | Made a quick trip to Damyns Hall today before the weather closed in, not been there for a while but still a very good airfield.
Need to check the website for noise abatement and circuit instructions but its all very straightforward. The Power Lines on the 21 approach are well clear of the field and with the longish runway don't really present a problem
Food good as ever with friendly staff and prompt service. Web site still says £6 landing fee but rumour has it that there are no fees anymore in order to encourage visitors. Certainly there were no charges on the day I flew in.
Runway and taxiway in good condition. Radio not manned so blind calls on Hornchurch Radio were in order and as usual somebody confirmed the runway being used when i call up with my intentions.
Still plenty of Jabirus and CTWs in residence by the looks of it and there was also a flexwing doing training
Avgas was for sale at £1.80 - very good price. ” |
“ | Not the best airfield if you get an engine failure Lots of obstacles to overcome on landing including Pylons forests etc there are slightly better airfields Seems to be run by a small group a not cliky So don't expect a warm welcome I flew into it in my cessna nice runway well maintained ” |
“ | Great little friendly airfield just to the East of the City of London and just inside the M25 north of the river Thames near the QE2 bridge. We were lucky when we visited as we could see the Good Year blimp tethered on the field, but if it hadn't been there it would have been harder to spot. There are 4 or 5 small lakes that surround Damyns so best to look for those.
The radio wasn't manned when we visited so blind calls are all that's needed
Grass strip was unveventful and taxiing to parking involves crossing a shallow ditch so use the track.
Cheap landing for London @ only £6. Nice little clubhouse with cafe again with good prices and decent grub and tea/coffee.
Highly recommend a visit. Will go back soon as just a short hop for me. Caution the power lines @ approx 1 mile final to 21. ” |
“ | Great little GA airfield. One of the most helpful I have visited - active (mostly microlights) but what looked like a Fourney Coupe parked up; great little cafe; good GA briefing facilities; and the most helpful team you could imagine. Keith - the manager - gave me a lift to Upminster tube (3 miles, picturesque semi-rural Essex). Ivor (airfield catering) lives on site, so there is in effect 24 hr security for parked aircraft. And he came out to sell me fuel out of hours, for which I am extremely grateful and without which I probably wouldn't have attempted the journey home, as I doubt anyone else would have been keen to sell me AVGAS going into the evening! I will be back; ideal for visiting London, or as a hopping off point for L2K. Thank you, Damyns Hall! ” |
“ | I had occasion to fly into Damnes hall last Fri 15-08-08
was pleasantly surprised. Food in Cafe excellent and very moderately priced. Landing fee up a £1 to 6. but still cheap compared to Stapleford a few miles away. At £15 ” |
“ | I did my check flghts on the Jabiru with Keith Reynolds (Rochester Microlights) at Damyns Hall last month.
Daymns Hall is a busy airfield, mostly microlights( lots of Jabirus, CTSWs etc.) and - with 650m of runway on 21/03 its located just inside the M25, south of Romford
There is a decent clubhouse / cafateria with a good menu
and plenty going on
PPR is required - a google search for Damyns Hall web sitewill provide the required info. Its under the London TMA so check your charts before flying in. Landing fees are cheap - £5 for a mocrolight and £7 for a light aircraft I think
Radio Frequency: 119.550 Air/Ground "HORNCHURCH RADIO", blind calls requred if not manned.
