Please come to our fly-in on the 8th June 2013! You need to be very familiar with grass strips. Although it's posted as 500m, it's shorter in reality - 450m from the displaced threshold touch-down to the fence on 06, and even less on 24 as you have to clear the fence first. In addition the field is undulating with various up and down slopes. For aircraft like Cessna's and PA28's, you need to know your aircraft well, and be well versed at landing on this sort of strip - coming in here is not the place to practice it!!

Nice little airfield, an excellent website gives you plenty of information. Everything is self service but not a problem. Just remember to take an envelope to leave your landing fee. Had a few problems locating it due to other airfields in the local area but the not a major issue. Would definitely visit again.

  • Landing fee / handling charges: 5

Deanland is a lovely little airfield however it really is ESSENTIAL to follow the noise abatement rules on the website exactly. Those wide circuits and precise inward and outward tracks are not just guidance. No facilities except lovely countryside, although there is a resident maintenance business. Nice range of aircraft based there. The strip is short and has a significant hump in it. Watch out for turbulence on the 06 approach. Deanland is not an airfield to use unless you are current with short strips. Regular blind calls on "Deanland Radio" 129.72 are required. Don't expect a reply however. Landing fees and logging in / out are "self service" but are required.

I had the plesure of visiting Deanland Airfield a number of times during 2006 as my family are based in Eastbourne.

I was always met with a warm welcome and found the 500m Grass strip a fun challenge in contrast to the 2009m Asphalt at my home Airfield Kemble.

I visited Deanland on 13 August 2003 in order to complete a 50hr check with our group LAE. There is a lovely little pub called the "Lamb Inn" about 15 mins walking distance from the airfield, out of the gate turn right and it is in the next village called Ripe. Excellent food and a beer garden.
