“ | Flew into Deenthorpe today 24/01/15' nothing going on at all. Facilities such as the cafe are now closed. Looks like there have been changes to the running of the airfield. Micro light training still exists. PPR required. Charged £10 landing fee, but I don't know what for as the facilities were poor. Runway a bit rough with grass growing from some cracks, there are also stones on the runway that you need to be careful of in order not to damage the ac tyres. ” |
“ | I flew in on Sunday just for a luck. Not a great deal happening, but the sausage sandwich was fine and the refusal to take a landing fee was wonderful! One point, I would suggest blind calls on safety com ” |
“ | There are quite a few planes at Deenethorpe giving a good mix of GA and ULM both fixed and flex wings, also an excellent flying school
Weekend breakfasts are well worth the visit, last Sunday we were treated to a family of Roe Deer close to the cafe, the male complete with antlers, back tracking for 22, a Red Kite was hovering into wind (20- Gusting 28 ) a few feet from the ground some 50 metres from us - marvellous to see

“ | Popped over to Deenethorpe today from Conington. Only a little jaunt but I had never been there. Radio was manned and very helpful and a couple of micros were flying around. Other than that very quiet. Found the Cafe open and apparently it is available at the weekend until 3pm. Don't forget the PPR by phone before hand though.
Runway is OK no big holes just tufts of grass poking through the joins!! ” |
“ | I had the opportunity to land at Deenethorpe today; first thing to know is the correct phone number: 01780 450 361 (Brudemell Estates). The gentleman who answered mentioned that there wouldn't be anyone to cash in my landing fee, so he recommended that I post it. He added that the actual amount was up to me, so we agreed on 5 pounds! The airfield stands out and is quite easy to spot, with Rutland Water to the north, RAF Wittering to the north-north east, and Corby immediately west. It is also at 27 nm on radial 050 from DTY VOR.
From the air, Deenethorpe's layout shows its RAF ancestry. Its single remaining (tarmac) runway is oriented 04/22 and about 1200m in length. Nice! Circuits are 04 RH, 22 LH at 1,000 AGL. Pooleys recommends to contact Cottesmore Zone on 130.20, but Deenethorpe's frequency is 127.575. However, as mentioned, there was nobody to answer it today, so blind position reports on joining and in the circuit are recommended.
The runway looks long - and it is! Very decent surface. Better than some highly-priced licensed airfields! ” |
