“ | Flew into Doncaster on Sunday 30 August to visit Tia Greyhound Rescue from where our two greyhounds came. Excellent and ever-helpful ATC were great, as always. Although Doncaster is not the cheapest option, (mandatory handling required), the staff at Weston Aviation, the handling agents, were incredibly helpful and, when our promised taxi didn’t turn up, they actually drove us the three miles to the rescue centre in the executive mini-bus. Even more helpful, when we returned to the aircraft to find a flat tyre, they managed to find a compressor of their own and spent 20 minutes sorting out the problem. An outstanding service and one we will not forget. Well done Weston Aviation! (Just to add icing to the cake, we had to taxi past the Vulcan on landing and watched it do three circuits.) ” |
“ | Didn't land but Doncaster App were very helpful - in first suggesting, and then helping us, transit through controlled airspace direct to Sandtoft. Saved us flying o/side west & north of zone. Radar controlled (no transponder) @ 2,300ft. Good view of airport as we flew just north of runway. No activity noted.
Kept outside zone on returned flight - listening watch - but App was offering zone transit to other GA aircraft. ” |
“ | I regularly fly a based PA-28 out of Doncaster and have found service to be excellent. When they are busy they do expect you to come in via the published 'VRP' and 'lanes' as per AIP, from the west this is remaining West of the M18 until they are ready for you to come in, or remaining East and entering via 'Haxey' following the railway line inbound. If not busy, they'll often clear you direct to left or right base (VFR). It is worth having a look on a parking chart for where you will be going, is a little confusing the first time finding your way to 'Foxtrot'. ATC very accomodating when they can be.
Not sure why handling is necessary, but there you go.
As mentioned, you need your pilots license and preferably your passport for airside access. ” |
“ | Very GA friendly with well organised car transfer to/from terminal. At date of writing about £10 for landing and a 2 hour stay with 1 tonne aircraft. Expect full terminal departure procedures and have identity papers with you (passport, driving/flying licence). ” |
“ | I visited Doncaster on 2nd July in a Robin from Sherburn. It was quite busy by its standards with with a few jets on the apron some of which were charters. The tower were very helpful and i was offered the use of a follow me truck by tower on the phone before arrival and the procedure was explained to me in detail. The folks at the airport were also again polite and helpful. GA parking is on foxtrot (the old runway). Excellant facilities await any pilot who flies there however you will have to be accompanied by airside ops when airside and go through the passenger terminal building as there are no GA facilities at the airfield. When I visited, there was a half price offer on landing fees which cost me £5.20. Well worth a visit!! ” |
“ | Flew in with another microlight just befor it opened. What a runway! Possible to land across rather than along. Tower helpful and friendly. ” |
“ | Visited from Bagby in C150 G-EJMG did a few circuits. good experience. Controllers very good. ” |
