Pilot reviews of Dundee Airfield
22 Sep 12 - Ian Holliday - Salisbury
|“||A very quick visit, but very enjoyable. A fabulous approach and circuit over the River Tay onto a very nice runway. Clear and very helpful instructions from ATC. They also were very good in arranging an overflight of Leuchars for our flight south. Handling was by Tayside Avaition - a busy business like flying club. For our quick visit, they proved to be very efficient. £17 landing fee for a PA28 didn't seem to bad for a commercial airport with ATC and good facilities - especially when compared to Fife (£15).
Business like, but worth a visit. Recommended. |

|“||Visited Dundee today 1.11.08 from Blackpool. Good trip with reasonable cloud base outbound. Scottish Information gave the usual great service has did Edinburgh and Dundee. Easy to find the airfield in a great location. A quiet airfield with not much happening but great reception by the lads in control, usual Scottish good humour and very helpful.
£9.00 Landing fee at such a location is well worth it, although runway is parallel with the estuary so winds affect the landings.
Cafe not open (Probably because it was weekend) but a good pub / restaurant about a five minute stroll away serving a good menu and a great haggis dish.
All in all, would definitely go again. Cloud base came down on return so re-routed via east coast and across lower ground further south, bit of a roam around but managed to maintain VMC all the way back to Blackpool.
Worth a visit but obvious high ground on route so maybe a summer destination for VFR pilots.
