I satisfied a long held desire to land here, virtually at my childhood home, having flown from Wycombe Air Park. It only took three days to get there but that wasn't the fault of the airfield.

The welcome is very friendly. I had visited (by road) previously and had names and numbers and throughout my tribulationd getting there I was given continual assistance by the staff.

A fabulous historic site - adjacent to the museum exhibiting the Scotish Concorde - with a Vulcan, Comet and 1-11 out on the old apron.

The runways are short and the noise abatment needs to be paid attention to but it was easy enough in my Eurostar. Wonderful landscape and coastline nearby.

Had business in Edinburgh and thought East Fortune would be a good option being some twenty miles/fourty minutes by car from the city. PPR briefing was really friendly & generally helpful and it's an airfield run by enthusiasts from the microlight community. The airfield 11/29 consists of part 300m concrete extended onto 150m grass = 450m. Relatively short but doable... well it should have been. For my sins no doubt, I drive a Grob 109B motor glider with 17m wing span. But there's a 'gotcha' (isn't there always)... Approx. 50m into the grass overrun the runway has a four foot wood stake fence flanking each side - obscured by long grass & sheep. I (later) paced the grass runway width to be approximately 13m. Hmmm, 17m wide wings really won't fit, however you want to cut it. Long story short, I max air-braked and burnt rubber to haul-up the Grob in 300m of hard and avoided the fence, by good fortune. Getting out of East Fortune was similarly interesting - the second 'gotcha' ... it's possible to put a Grob 109B down on a short strip, but somewhat more difficult to depart on the same length - no pax on the return flight, wheels off at 280m with 5knot headwind. I hope the above is of some assistance to other motor gliders visiting East Fortune, well worth a visit - take care, Frank Waller, August 2013.

Diverted here from fife at last minute so no breifing but received a very warm welcome and help with fuel etc. Please note they now have their own frequency which was not in my very recent issue of Pooleys so do ring to get breifed (we didn't have that opportunity!). Would recommend a visit if your in the area, I certainly intend to go back (planned next time!)

Worth visiting for the Scottish Museum of Flight. However unless you are happy to get in & out of a 450m grass/concrete runway then it might be better to go by road. Bit of a walk from the ultralight club portacabin to the museum but a lift was on offer & accepted from the club.
