Finally got up to East Kirkby airfield and museum. well worth the effort. Suggest you visit the website as Poolys is not up to date (even on Sky Demon). circuit height depends on whether the MATZ is active and is either 500' or 800'. I was a bit thrown by the lack of any numbers or runway markings - its essentially just a field but its in good shape with good approaches. Museum / heritage centre is excellent

Fantastic piece of history nestling in some beautifully tranquil Lincolnshire countryside.
Have uploaded some photos as the ones we saw before visiting were not that helpful. See previous post about the "straight runway" just outside of the E.Kirkby airfield. It all used to be part of the same field and it's very confusing when arriving with no previous reference to it. Ignore it or pay £50 to land there. Landing was straight forward but there was a large irrigation pipe running the width of the field where the concrete meets the grass. I am not sure if this is temporary but have highlighted it on one of the photos.
Very warm welcome. Immaculately kept/preserved piece of history which really made me feel "the ghosts" of the place when visiting. Just Jane was in the hangar and lots of other interesting recovered artifacts and crash parts are on show as is billet and planning huts. The NAAFI served fantastic food which I had to photo and post, really good. Will definitely visit again.

Coningsby is very close as you can see from this climb out shot. Check with Coningsby Satco before moving in or out of E.Kirkby.

Just to save any confusion this was taken on our recent trip where we only had the web site aerial view (Google Maps?) to refer to.
Hopefully this provides a bit more detail. You can see a DC-3 parked on the grass for scale.

I don't often post food shots, but this beef bourguignon and a cuppa was £4.50. Look at the chunks of cow in that.
s this.

From the air (Marked up)

Adding some more detail to this shot. Airfield boundary marked in yellow. The red line was a heavy duty pipe (4-6" diameter) running across the concrete which we only saw at the last minute and managed to miss. Don't know if this is temporary as it was mentioned or marked anywhere else but wanted to post it here in case you get caught out also. The windsock is next to the tower and is circled on here, we didn't spot it from the air on approach.

Amazing sight seeing this Lanc taxi around East Kirkby during the 60th anniversary of Roy Chadwicks death, Roy was an AVRO designer and died in a Tudor crash at Woodford in August 1947.
