Finally got up to East Kirkby airfield and museum. well worth the effort.

Suggest you visit the website as Poolys is not up to date (even on Sky Demon). circuit height depends on whether the MATZ is active and is either 500' or 800'.

I was a bit thrown by the lack of any numbers or runway markings - its essentially just a field but its in good shape with good approaches.

Museum / heritage centre is excellent

Fantastic piece of history nestling in some beautifully tranquil Lincolnshire countryside. Have uploaded some photos as the ones we saw before visiting were not that helpful. See previous post about the "straight runway" just outside of the E.Kirkby airfield. It all used to be part of the same field and it's very confusing when arriving with no previous reference to it. Ignore it or pay £50 to land there. Landing was straight forward but there was a large irrigation pipe running the width of the field where the concrete meets the grass. I am not sure if this is temporary but have highlighted it on one of the photos. Very warm welcome. Immaculately kept/preserved piece of history which really made me feel "the ghosts" of the place when visiting. Just Jane was in the hangar and lots of other interesting recovered artifacts and crash parts are on show as is billet and planning huts. The NAAFI served fantastic food which I had to photo and post, really good. Will definitely visit again.

East Kirkby. Flew into this former RAF/USAF airfield 30 March 2013 from Wellesbourne Mountford to see the Lancaster "Just Jane" taxy around the airfield. Grass and concrete runway available with a combined length of 900m. See web site. Using 06 only needed to use the grass for landing and takeoff. There are the remains of one of the former 3 runways but the fee is now £50 to land (it is situated on another persons land) but after overflying it I cannot vouch for its condition. Musuem has very interesting exhibits and great to be up close when the Merlins fired up. Great Naafi too! No fuel available on site.

28th June 2010

Flew into East Kirkby today couldn't raise anyone on the phone PPR, so went anyway.

The people were very friendly, landing fee was well worth it and we got a large slice of free CAKE.

My friend didn't want his so i ate his as well.

The ATC at RAF Conningsby were very good " not above 500 Feet"

The Lancaster " Just Jane" well worth the visit.

The runway is grass or if you use the line that the Spitfire uses part of the Concrete hard standing shouldn't be a problem.

Further to my earlier airfield information, having now flown in and out I am pleased to report that the the join between concrete and grass is very good.

There being no ATC, SafetyCom is used after hand off from Coningsby. The airfield being under Coningsby (MATZ) stub, do not expect a standard circuit Coming from the south I was advised to decend to 500' QNH and make a base leg join.

East Kirkby. PPR e-mail enquiries@lincsaviation.co.uk Tel 01790 763207. Situated on a disused WWII airfield, Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre recommended.

The "runway" about 800 metres, is part of the original southern taxiway. Landing fee £25, cash preferrred. No ATC.

Situated under Coningsby MATZ. Call Coningsby Zone 120.80 when inbound. Tel Coningsby ATC 01526 347401 before taking off. Make contact with Zone asap. MET from Coningsby on 01526 347507
