Martin Lee - N Wales, fly from Chester
“ | Flew into EMA in my C172 last week in poor visibility - though there was a noticeable gap in the cloud directly over the airfield. Got good service from ATC including a helpful SRA, missed approach than vectors back to a (very) short visual final. Landing and handling fees are expensive though. ” |

David Richardson - Fowlmere
“ | Visited East Midlands last week. Costs have increased again (to £67 for an Arrow) but, as others have noted, the service is very good from Execair. They are also very willing to organise taxis etc if you talk to them in advance. ” |

Tim Evans - Telford
“ | A very understanding Tower (they managed to put up with my poor RT skills) and got straight in without a problem , however a £25+ landing fee and a mandatory handling charge ment I was hit with a bill for £57. Still, you do get a lift to/from the terminal buildings for that. ” |

BILL BLANCHARD - Derby
“ | EMA has two flying schools - East Midlands Flying School and Don-Air. I believe both offer trial lessons, certainly EMFS does. They offer C152, PA28, C172, PA34 aircraft for hire too.
If you are a visiting pilot you will be required to use the main apron where handling is compulsory - Execair are the main GA handling agent for singles and small twins. They provide a full service including transportation to/from the terminal. If you need fuel its best to call in advance and order it as AVGAS can take a while to be delivered to the plane at peak times. Catering is available H24 in the passenger terminal. The airport has just introduced a minimum £25 landing fee charge (incl.VAT I think) and a handling fee is charged on top of this by Execair so it isn't prticularly cheap but the airport is handling over 4 million passengers a year now. Two hours free parking is included in the price. Be prepared for local holds at peak times. Best times to visit are weekday lunchtimes, Sat afternoons or Sun mornings when commercial traffic is at its quietest. Arrival and departure for small GA aircraft is usually via the Shepshed (from the south) or Long Eaton (from the north) lanes remaining to the east or west side of the M1 Motorway depending on which runway is in use. A50 and A42 zone joins/exits are sometimes available on request. ILS training is also available - best to book with ATC in advance.
