Visited Edinburgh (EGPH) on 28th March 2012 in a Cessna 172 from Netherthorpe to attend a friends birthday do.
No drama on approach and ATC very helpful. Arrival was via the Dalkeith and Hillend VRPs and we landed shortly after a British airways A321.
As always with large airports the most difficult part of the naviagtion was when we were under taxi instructions from ground ATC. They were more than helpful though and guided us into the GAT or Buisness aviation centre where we were met by our handling agents, Signature. We were curoius as to why ATC asked if we had booked in with any handling agent just prior to landing, srely Signature should have passed this information on, we had also filed a VFR flight plan.
Departure was faily stress free, trying to get in on ther radio amongst the commercial traffic on a busy friday morning oly caused us a few minutes delay. We had to file a VFR flight plan for our departure via AFPEx for our journey to Fife for breakfast and fuel. We did not want to pay £2.80 a litre for avgas at Edinburgh!
Nice airport to fly into, ATC had no problems mixing VFR and IFR traffic.
Costs involved:-
Departure charge- £40
Nav Fee- £10
Parking for days- £20.96
Handling- £95
Security Fee- £45
plus VAT
total
£253.15!!!
Not surprised the flying club is going under.
regards,
Liam
