“ | Flew in IFR from Cambridge. Radar vectors for ILS on 24 with no delay despite arriving during the week at 1700. Handling with Signature with overnight parking and departure VFR (though in practice this simply enables you to depart direct to one of the VRPs and you can call IMC as required). ATC provided a great service, Signature were very helpful both on arrival and departure. Downside has got to be that the costs do not reflect well. Still totally out of proportion for GA requirements. Departure charge £60.00 Navigation charge £9.20 Parking £12.36 Ground handling £115.50 Security charge £48.00 All plus 20% VAT. The first three I can accept - the last two would prevent me recommending this airport. ” |
“ | This aerodrome has a serious issue with its landing, security, and handling fees. Expect over £220 in fees for a Cessna 172. This is an extremely serious issue that needs to be addressed. The airport bosses must not be allowed to grow fat. ” |
“ | Liam, I don't know who told you that "the flying club is going under" but it is not correct. We remain active at Edinburgh Airport with both training and PPL flying. ” |
“ | I wanted to go the Edinburgh in a Piper Warrior II and was quoted +/- £200 composed of: Handling £87+ ‘Escape fee’ £40+ Parking ca. £2(25pp tonne / hour)+ Navigation £10 (1xILS)+ Security(?) £45+ Pax x2 £17= £201 – as they say, Dick Turpin wore a mask but this is tantamount to a mugging! I planned for Glenrothes instead. Why don't they just say "We don't want you - go away"? ” |
“ | Expensive airfield to land if you're just looking for a new entry in the log book! I've flown in a few times over the last 12 months and have been handled by Greer Aviation until the last visit when Greer had been taken over by Signature Flight Support. The costs were similar and some of the staff from Greer have been taken on. Everyone was/is friendly and helpful - even to the point of finding me a needle and thread when I split my trousers the last time I was there. :) ATC are generally very helpful whether you are IFR or VFR. There's also a great little transport cafe just round the corner if you feel like something more than the complimentary tea and coffee. ” |
“ | Needed to collect young daughter from Edinborough following diversion from Heathrow. Piper Warrior. Quoted. Depature £40.00, £82.00 handling, £10.00 navigation, £8.50 per pax plus 12p per minute parking all plus tax , of course. They cannot be in the real world.. Thank you cumbernault !! ” |
“ | Flew into Edinburgh in G-VOID in order to attend a friend's wedding. The weather was pretty poor but vectors to the ILS saw us safely down on runway 24. It was, as always, oddly gratifying to see a US commercial jet holding for us to land. ATC were very helpful and friendly. No dramas.
As always for those of us not really used to big airports, the greatest challenge is following the taxy instructions correctly without making a fool of oneself. We managed it eventually and parked up at the Business Aviation Centre.
We flew out the following day in even worse weather, taking off in the drizzle after a short queue of commercial carriers. A VFR departure was followed very shortly afterwards by a climb into 1000' cloud base before setting course to Talla VOR. We didn't see the ground again aside from occasional glimpses until a cloud-break under Boscombe Down's control some two hours later.
Edinburgh was as well-equiped and as accommodating as one could hope for, but at a fairly hefty price. Handling is compulsory and comes in at around £50. The landing fee is around £40 with a nav fee of £10 on top. Add overnight parking and it all mounts up to a sizeable bill. So dropping in on Edinburgh isn't a cheap option. Nonetheless, cost aside, it was a pleasure to visit and it is somewhere I may go again once I've re-mortgaged the house.
