“ | Popped in to Fairoaks yesterday for the first time in (I was horrified to see from my log book) 14 years! Air Traffic on site were very helpful and friendly both with an initial telephone briefing and clearly giving departure info while I was in the tower paying the landing fee. Have to admit the recently increased landing fee (£22.80 for a PA28)took me by surprise but as I fly from Biggin I guess I can't complain too much. Café was coming to the end of it's working day but rustled up a decent Cornish Pastie and a slice of cake to go with my cup of tea. The lady serving was also very friendly. Pleasant airfield which has some interesting hardware parked around the site. Not a bad place to while away an hour or so on a sunny afternoon. ” |
“ | £18 for a C172 was quite a shock compared to the £6 we paid at Damyns Hall previously.
Cafe with indoor and outdoor seating selling basic fare. Nice cuppa tea and a caramel slice sorted me out (not my wallet!).
Nice chaps in the tower got on the phone to Heathrow for us and arranged a sqwark and special VFR clearance through the zone for our trip back to Denham.
They have a complex (ish) departure procedure which they have handouts for but read up in your flight guides to be sure as you are in the TMA and they don't need GA wandering around unsure.
Nice field but I think I'll have 3 landings at Damyns for this one in future ” |
“ | Visited Fairoaks on Friday a great airfield with nice tarmac runway helpfull atc nice cafe worth a visit ” |
“ | An excellent airfield.
Very welocoming, realy good AFIS dealt with the 5 or so of us in the the circuit very well. The runway / taxiways are in top condition.
The restaurant was good value and the food was good quality. Landing fee was under £12 for my Jabiru SK.
A very straightforward aifield to find - it can be seen for miles, however it's in the London TMA so a call for a briefing is necessary for the fist time visitor and take note of the joining and departure info in the guides ie max 1500' QNH in the zone and variable circuits. Nothing complicated though and all in all pretty easy. An airfield that's well worth visiting.

“ | Thought I'd have a go at visiting Fairoaks, as somewhere new to try. Although it's in Heathrow's Zone, Farnborough are excellent at taking you through to Fairoaks' ATZ, and the FISO at Fairoaks was very helpful and friendly. ” |

Flew over to Fairoaks today having put it off before due to the London TMA above. A bit of homework with the airfield guide and an excelent telephone briefing (PPR most essential)made it easy in practice. The max altitude within the zone and the circuits are both variable - 06 was LH when I called up, RH when I arrived and LH when I departed 1 1/2 hours later!
I was approaching from the South and as the area is extremely busy I took FIS from Farnborough on 125.25 both ways. They are extremeley helpful and seem very used to dealing with the Fairoaks traffic. Fairoaks Information itself was very professional.
800m of asphalt, decent restaurant, plenty going on and Transair on site. Well worth a visit. ” |
“ | went to fairoaks yesturday, help full ATC. ring before you go for the joining instructions. and the routing. In the LTMA so care with the height. The circular biulding to the south of the field is a good reference point, to confirm the correct airport. Also busy area with lots of traffic from all other airports. as you fly in the aircraft leaving and arriving from heathrow look really close.

“ | Flew into to Fairoaks Airport the other day for the first time, have been there before to visit Transair Pilot Shop but never flown in. I have to say I was very impressed, ATC were excellent. The runways is well kept and it's a nice place to sit have a coffee before flying home. You also have the advantage of being able to spend money on new toys at Transair. ” |
“ | Visited Fairoaks today for the first time and was very pleasantly impressed.
Pooleys suggests a phone call briefing if you have not visited before. This worked very well as ATC were very helpful and made it very clear how to enter their zone even though it appears as part of the London Zone. Farnbourough were also very helpful with the hand-over both on the way in and the way out. The runway itself was flat and good quality and there was a good cafe. I had always been put off visiting before due to the airspace issue - but helpful ATC from Farnborough and Fairoaks made it very straightforward. The airfield is also home to ALan Mann aviatin - so plenty of different aircraft to look at - as well as the Transair shop. Ian H ” |
