Pilot reviews of Farley Farm Airstrip
“ | Farley Farm Airstrip is located to the west of Winchester in the hills above the beautiful Test Valley. It is strictly private, but the farmer has recently built a 5 star glamping hut "The Farley Hangar" with stunning views over open countryside to the Solent and Isle of Wight; so the strip is accessible to those who want to book a peaceful and secluded retreat. This can be booked through AirBnB or Visit Hampshire. The strip itself is an 840 yard grass runway (06/24) which is in excellent condition, maintained by the very small number of resident aircraft owners. It is smooth and does not get waterlogged in winter, except in extreme conditions, due to the fact that it is on a very well drained chalk upland about 450 feet asl. It lies under the Southampton CTR Class D airspace, there being a cut out (SFC - 1500') to allow Farley to operate. Resident pilots jealously guard their good relationship with Solent Radar and do not encourage sloppy operators. If flying in for glamping, ask Amy to put you in touch with one of us and we'll give you a brief. No fuel, maintenance or anything else, but Popham and Thruxton are not far away. ” |
