“ | Called into Fenland for fuel outbound from Great Massingham on the way to Strubby North. Fuel was by self-service (and was very easy to use) and landing fee only £5.00. Great café which had a very good selection, (but I only had tea as still full from Dabbling Duck breakfast at Great Massingham).
Lovely grass runways, plenty of parking and outside seating. A very friendly club and in a glorious location. I’d call it ‘charming’ and it is just my kind of destination: pretty, friendly and informal. Well worth a visit if you haven’t been before or even if you have! ” |
“ | I last visited Fenland in 2009, the year I bought my Skyranger microlight aircraft. This afternoon my wife and I made a revisit. Lovely airfield, very friendly and helpful radio controller. Variety of food on the menu and several different cakes. Lovely, friendly atmosphere every where. £5 landing fee makes this airfield very cost effective. Plenty of useful information on their website to plan ahead that I found very useful. All in all, a very enjoyable flying experience, thank you Fenland. ” |
“ | Flew to Fenland on 13th April for the first time from North Weald (EGSX) and what a great little airfield! The facilities are well looked after and a very friendly welcome from all of the staff. Only £5 for SEP to land here so it is well worth a visit! Free wifi available in the clubhouse and plenty of table space for any flight planning. ” |
“ | Visited Fenland for the first time after hearing raving reviews & was not disappointed. PPR is not required & very handy when passing by & require a bite to eat, called up on the radio and dropped in - very friendly and polite. Restaurant is good quality and very good value for money. A choice of two decent runways. I see they do a Sunday lunch so I'll be back soon! All for a fiver landing fee! ” |
“ | Visited 8 August 2015. Agree with last year's review - and is still just as good. Very friendly, including invitation to spend time in control tower. Avgas and UL91 on self service credit card system. Catering fist class. Definitely fly in again. ” |
“ | Flown over Fenland on a number of occasions but never called in until today. A true GA airfield, great atmosphere and fantastic catering and only £5 landing fees and a really friendly welcome, although it has 2 relatively short grass runways they where in top condition, as was the rest of the facilities, very refreshing, We counted 21+ aircraft of various types! In the visitors parking area, says something about its popularity. if you haven't visited give it a go, you won't be disappointed. Nice touch Fenland, thank you ” |
“ | Called in on late on a Wednesday afternoon (20th June = longest day? or not in a leap year?) anyway - the airfield has a self dispense fuel facility which was gratefully received. I fly from Husthwaite N Yorks and the penny dropped that this is a great re-fuel facility for longer trips. Received a warm welcome / pot of tea and great bacon butty. Refueled in every sense I was able to continue my journey. Well worth a visit ” |
“ | Finally made it to Fenland after being beaten by the weather half a dozen times. Well worth the visit.
Landed on Runway 36 which was in very good condition. The approaches to Fenland are very open and with the distinctive "T" layout of runways and the airfield building it was pretty easy to spot.
Excellent restaurant - the club sandwich was big enough to threaten MAUW on departure!!
Reasonable landing fees and good air / ground radio service

“ | Stopped at Fenland for a bowl of soup and a roll on my way to Cambridge. A little tricky to spot as one green field among many, but a departing aircraft gave it away. 08/26 grass was a pleasant strip, and reasonably firm considering all the recent weather. A/G radio, flight centre and clubhouse all offered a warm and friendly welcome. The restaurant was good, and as we are reciprocal with Fenland I can't complain about the landing fee! ” |
“ | We went to Fenland on Thursday and had a lovely lunch courtesy of Kate. Fenland Club Sandwich..rather excellent, it was.
The whole airfield was very quiet and hopefully this was just a temporary glitch. ” |
“ | Finally got into Fenland - the last 4 attempts have been beaten by the weather!
easy to find with the aid of a quick visit to google earth beforehand, with a straightforward circuit.
they were on 18 when I flew in and the approaches couldn't be easier which makes the 600 odd metres seem very long, some pretty big undulations in the runway although otherwise very good.
Restaurant was a little slow on the day i visited as a fly-in was taking place but the food was good.
Worth a re-visit without doubt

“ | Flew in for the first time a week or so ago. Absolute pig to spot the airfield on the way in, typical of the Fens!
Having said that on arrival ATC good and accomodating as to which runways available, taxing parking etc. Watch out for R/W 08/26 and get the landing speed right as it's not the smoothest grass in the world! You will end up with three landings for the price of one.
R/W 18/36 has a very good surface and none of the runways have any gradient to speak of.
Landing fee is £10 for a single and you pay in the control point by filling out the movement book then putting your cash in a an enveloppe and sticking it in the post box.
Did not use the cafe as I was on a quick turn around but looked very nice.
Overall a nice field to vist and a good one to hone your short field techniques............................ ” |
“ | Have visited Fenland twice now and both times received a warm welcome. Although we haven't eaten at Fenland the Sunday roasts smelt beautiful and certainly went down well with other visitors. The airfield is well maintained and is in a very peaceful setting and easy to find. Both times we have got chatting to fellow aviators which always makes for a great day out and certainly will be visiting Fenland alot more over the next few months. ” |
“ | Dropped in to Fenland to drop off a plane, for maintenance. Apart from walking for the plane to the plane for the return flight home can not comment on the facilities. the runways are not that short and are very well maintained. no one there when arrived so blind calls, easy to find, no to short either. nice flat part of the world. ” |
“ | I took my PPL at Fenland and had a great chance to learn the buissness of flying. The instructors are sound and the welcome is the warmest youll get at any airfield.I unfortunatly did not get to finish due to jobs abroad but look forward to getting back their to finish. The airfield, runway and amenities are all sound and its a pleasure to fly from nd to the airfield. ” |
“ | I visited Fenland a few weeks ago for the first time. Spotting it wasn't too hard. Landing proved to be a lot more challenging. I came down quite hard, being anxious to execute a shortfield landing on the numbers on this somewhat short N/S runway (594m). The a/c then bounced ... twice badly before I hit the power and aborted. The control tower was superb throughout, and checke ny undercarriage visually during a subsequent low pass. The engineer Rex had Pablo check out the aircraft when I did eventually get in. It was OK. Just damaged pride. Seriously though, the runway is very short has some nasty undulations that helped contribute to the severity of the bounces. I guess this is on account of the fact it gets very wet and boggy up here at certain times of year. Treat with extreme caution. ” |
“ | A crowd of us from Leicester have been visiting Fenland Airfield on Wednesday evenings over the past few weeks. Other than our own it seems to be one of the few Midland clubs open on weekday evenings. Reg and Ella have been very cordial hosts providing enjoyable food and quality ale (hard luck those P1 for the home leg!). Ideal summer evening trips to relax in the comfort of their refurbished clubhouse. Very useful airfield/wx information on their website too. ” |
“ | Flew into Fenland yesterday for a lunchtime snack. Landing fee was only £6. Two coffees, a bacon sandwich and a chip baguette were even cheaper.
A friendly airfield with a welcomeing atmosphere. ” |
“ | Dropped in en-route from Abbeville to Wombleton mid-week for fuel. Tower very helpful and friendly. Had clubhouse to ourselves. ” |
“ | I visited Fenland this weekend for the first time in a few years. As another reviewer has said, it can be tricky to spot, but the hangars stand out fairly well. They tend to use 18/36 even if there is cross wind, but the tower seemed very happy to fit people in on 08/26 if the crosswind component is a bit much for you. ” |
“ | Flew in to Fenland today 10th October. My first impressions being the friendly and efficient attitude shown by the control tower, the excellent surface of the grass runway ,and the friendship offered by every one I met.Special mention must be made of the clubhouse staff and especially the food, roast beef and yorkshire pud, what a nice change from the norm.I will certainly be returning, sooner than later,WELL DONE ALL AT FENLAND . ” |
“ | I visited Fenland over a period of weekends with my son. Everyone that worked there was friendly, interesting and made us feel most welcome. I am now taking my JARPPL Course their and am extremely impressed by the welcoming attitude and sound instruction from the flying staff and the ground staff.
The cafe is great and gives a view to the 18/36 runway and the food is good. The airfield is a friendly place and well worth a visit. The girls behind the desk are nice to talk to and great to look at. Go there. ” |
“ | Flew up to Fenland yesterday to try out the newly extended runway. As it happened it was directly in to wind so I managed to land and turn off by the old North/South runway. The runway edge markers are fairly indistinct but if you aim for the central orange marker by the fence you won't go far wrong. Hopefully it will encourage more people to visit as there always seemed to be a X-wind on the N/S strip. As it was a weekday it was very quiet but the coffee and the sandwich were fresh and good value. Give it a try ” |
“ | I have to say that Fenland is one of the most delightful airfields in the UK. Small but perfectly formed, there are excellent cafeteria and bar facilities and a well-stocked shop to enjoy. Sitting outside one is really close to the landing aircraft, and the Sunday lunch was copious and tasty - as well as being great value. The grass runways are smooth and well maintained, and the ATC is helpful and efficient. ” |
“ | The people at Fenland couldn't be more helpful and welcoming if they tried. The food was very good and very generous and cheap.
We manged to fit our Archer very nicely onto runway 18 with three up, 3/4 tanks on a hot day. Took us a little while to spot it amongst the surrounding fields. The displaced threshold on 18 is there for a very good reason. When Pooley's says there is a road in the under shoot....they mean right on the end of the runway. Well worth a visit. 10 out of 10 ” |
