Flew into Finmere on 10 June from Turweston, an eight minute flight. I had wanted to fly into here a few years back but could never get PPR. This time a lovely lady approved PPR and provided all the info I needed. Cars were using the runway for testing, but moved out of the way both in and out and gave a friendly wave.

I spoke with a few of the people based there who seemed a very friendly lot and sat on a lovely bench under the shade of a tree watching the world go by. Although there was nothing much at the airfield, the location is nice and rural and would work for a picnic!

The runway was in good condition and a nice taxiway to park near to the hangars. Watch out for the wooden fences which are close to the edge of the taxiway. Other than that, yet another really nice destination that I may come to again and explore a bit further.

Visited Finmere on 18th January 2020 and parked for about two hours.

We were told that there used to be a microlight school there, which might be why the airfield got the 'M' designation. Also, the published circuit is very tight, although a relaxed 1 nm circuit to the south comfortably avoids all the noise sensitive areas.

Finmere is now a thriving mix of microlights, certified aircraft and aero modellers, so the airfield is very inclusive.

Hangarage is available at the time of writing this.

The concrete runway has a 10 m wide strip of perfect tarmac down the middle. The taxiways are similarly refurbished and clear of stones.

The reception was very welcoming and the whole place is immaculate. There is tea in the crew room and a very good pub / restaurant just over a mile along the footpath in Finmere.

PPR is by telephone or text from Vanessa Taite, the airfield owner: 07740 840181.

Do go.

Finmere has gone thru changes since the bad reviews on this site. I have spent 5 months here and during that time 2 gliders have diverted and had their tow planes arrive and aerotow out. Both cases took over 4 hours to complete. No landing fee was charged. No one should hesitate to divert and land if the situation calls for it. That is a called a precautionary landing. Pre planned landings do require PPR, just like most other aerodromes in this country, and will pay a landing fee.

I am a Canadian and not used to this PPR aspect . We are very lucky in Canada to not have that issue.
