Flew into Glenforsa from Oban on Monday 12th October and return outbound to Blackpool. I have been before a few times but not for a while. The airfield has been taken over by the Glenforsa Hotel (who used to own/run it many years ago I believe). The grass runway is only about half its original width but is still plenty wide and long enough with a decent surface. A/G may be manned or not, (on my visit, a departing pilot provided initial information and then the A/G operator came out to meet me and provide airfield information).
The hotel is lovely and has a great bar where I had lunch looking out along the Sound of Mull. The pictures say it all, but Glenforsa really is one of the most scenic airfields in Britain and the ability to park outside the hotel is pretty unusual in a fixed wing aircraft. My visit coincided with the last day the hotel was to be open before Easter next year, but I highly recommend a visit to Glenforsa for anyone who has not yet been. The hotel is run by Brendan and Allison, a couple who are both pilots and who used to manage Intrepid Aviation’s warbirds, so lots of interesting pictures all around the hotel. Very highly recommended.
