Flew in recently to this delightful airfield. As others have said, just be aware of the dip in the runway. With no catering facilities it is the perfect place to take a picnic, ideally arriving in a vintage biplane with a wicker hamper, and soak up the atmosphere. Certainly going back again

I flew in to Great Oakley a couple of weeks back and I'm pleased to say that it is still a welcoming field to visit. A coffee is included in the £10 landing fee and the clubhouse is very smart. A group are rebuilding FOUR Percival Proctors there but as it was a weekend the workshop was closed. Just be aware of the dip in the runway.

Visited Great Oakley today. Tim gave a detailed brief when ringing for PPR and we were met on arrival by Michele who provided a free drinks included in the £10 landing free. Tasted a delightful bacon butty whilst sat on the verandah in the sunshine. Well marked taxiway's and parking areas. This airfield is worth the visit.

Very pretty airfield with well kept runways and taxiways. Made to feel very welcome and given a mug of coffee on arrival. The high standard of work going on to develop to catering side of things suggests that this will be a very popular destination in the near future, I will certainly be coming back. Not really worth walking into the town. Just one pretty ropey pub that doesn't do food and a newsagent. Not difficult to see from the air and although the runways are undulating they aren't steep or sudden. Radio might be unmanned so make blind calls and the windsock is faded and I found it hard to see from the air. Very good weather station in the clubhouse for briefing. Nice to see this sort of progress in GA, well worth a visit.

What a Gem ! Fantastic airfield in beautiful location. Facilities are very good, the hump in the runway can be a little unnerving the first time but I couldn't find any fault with this place what so ever. Landing fee includes a free cuppa and a very warm welcome. Well worth a visit

Took advantage of the free landing voucher to visit Great Oakly, an unlicensed field about 5 miles East of Colchester. The airfield is in good condition with a 800m 27 / 09 runway (with a hump toward the east end).

Quite easy to find as it lies just to the south of the A120 so follow the road (on the North side to keep out of the circuit) and you will find the airfield.

Very nice club house, although refreshments are limited to drinks and cakes, Avgas, and a very warm welcome. -

PPR is mandatory (there is a mobile number 07770 880145) and the radio may not be manned so blind calls should be made.

Well worth a visit
