Flew in with my daughter today. Second visit to this historic airfield. Grass runways a little undulating but no problems at all and landing fee of £3 is great value. Real grass roots feel to the field and very friendly radio and welcome. I believe that the airfield does not have too long a future due to housing, so I recommend it to anyone.

  • Standard of runway: 4
  • ATC / AFIS / A/G service: 5
  • Friendliness of welcome: 5

Flew into Hucknall today with my instructor to practice some grass landings.

Landed on runway 22, which has an odd bump in it, but it's not too serious.

Didn't stop here, just did some circuits and returned to EGNX, but my Dad had popped down to take some photos and said that the people he met were very friendly and seemed really nice. Apparently hot drinks are based on a donation.

The only issue we had was that it was a bit difficult to clearly understand the radio operator, not due to an accent or anything, just seemed like the was lots of distortion on the radio.

  • Standard of runway: 4
  • ATC / AFIS / A/G service: 3
  • Friendliness of welcome: 5

Landed at Hucknall 21st March. Very nice airfield, good runway (29) very friendly service and landing fee only £3.00. Couldn't ask for more. Local taxi firm (acorn) found the field and picked up very efficiently.

The telephone number shown on here appears to be out of service but one of the alternatives shown in Pooley's worked OK.

  • Standard of runway: 4
  • Landing fee / handling charges: 5
  • ATC / AFIS / A/G service: 5
  • Friendliness of welcome: 5

Flew into Hucknall yesterday (31 Jan). Fairly easy to spot with the (closed) hard runway - now used by the RR engine test-bed. Once that's in view, the airfield's grass runways stand out. Unusually, runway 11 was in use due to the south-easterly wind. I received a professional service from the moment I called inbound overhead TNT VOR/DME. Although several other aircraft could be heard in the circuit, the airfield turned out to be fairly quiet! Runway 11's surface is decent enough and a grass taxiway conveniently links it with the parking area. The clubhouse/tower building has to be the smallest I have come accross! The "fishbowl" itself can only accommodate about three persons at the same time, but has unobstructed views over most of the airfield. The landing fee (which I didn't have to pay due to a reciprocal agreement) includes a cup of tee or coffee! The (very friendly) clubhouse also has some of the cheapest snacks anywhere! Friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Well worth a visit if you fly in the East Midlands area from elsewhere (certainly with other nice airfields like Lambley and Tatenhill nearby). Don't be put off by the proximity of East Midlands Airport; if you have no GPS, the best option is to ask for a Flight Information Service from EMA radar on 134.17

Flew into Hucknall today. A very friendly little place. They have a small club house (with cheap drinks - 15p for a cup of tea), and quite possibly one of the shortest towers I have ever seen.

Also, at £3, the cheapest landing fee I've ever come across.
