Since I wrote a review on Kingsmuir airfield a year ago, one or two changes have occurred. St Andrews Skydive is now no longer resident at the field and the Leuchars Gazelle helicopter has also departed for good. This means that Kingsmuir is currently pretty quiet and peaceful all the time and, whilst the snack bar no longer functions in the clubhouse, the building remains open all day for visitors who can make their own tea and coffee. Toilets are also available in the clubhouse. The other buildings and support infrastructure for the Skydivers have been removed so the airfield now looks a little different. However, the runway, taxiway and parking areas are kept in pristine condition. PPR is still advised and the movements book and ‘pay what you think fit’ box now live beside the clubhouse door so you can’t miss them. The power line is now no longer a hazard at the 06 end. All circuits should be to the south for noise abatement.
Since the Skydive club left, many more aircraft have been visiting than previously so there can be quite a bit of action on sunny days. Don’t, therefore, assume no one else will be about! For the time being, blind call on 129.9 although this may change to Safetycom in the future.
Otherwise, everything in the previous review holds good.
