“ | Dropped in there today. Very helpful ppr over the phone with a £5 honesty box at the check-in room. 2K walk to the village of Much Marcle, and the Walwyn Arms pub... great carvery and a very good menu. If you're looking for a lunchtime fly-out, you could do much worse than this. The grass strip is huge and smooth. Take a look at a walking map before you get there and wear something suitable to walk across fields/crops in. Off the western end of the runway there are footpaths to Much Marcle which takes only about 25mins to reach. Build up an appetite and walk some of it off afterwards. Definately on our list of "go-to" airfields ” |
“ | Decided to try a new field and as Wales options seemed to be closed for weekend (Haverfordwest and Aberporth) went a bit closer to home (Bristol) and noticed Ledbury on the chart. Phoned the number on UKGA and Bob was very helpful with a brief briefing. Routed through the Gloucester overhead to get a reliable position fix and Ledbury airfield very easy to find to the South of the town beyond the M50. Avoid overflying houses to the North of the field as they complain so landing to the West I made a left hand circuit and very well kept grass runway with loads of room for the PA28. £5 landing fee in the honesty box is hard to beat and a bracing 5 mile walk into the very picturesque town for lunch. May organise a taxi next time!! Thanks for a great airfield and encourage everyone to give it a try. ” |
“ | Dropped in to Ledbury on the way back from Shobdon with 3 other Jabirus and a Remos.
The 800m grass strip (25 / 07) is in superb condition, one of the best I have used for some time.
No facilties there at all but there is a checking in book and a landing fee honesty box (£5), Its PPR by phone of course.
Not the easiest to spot but there is a large greenhouse site about a mile west of the 25 threshold which might help, there is a road tight to the 25 thershold but most light aircraft or micolights will have no need to land short in any case. I gave the hedge plenty of space and was confortably off by the hanger at mod runway.
In the 45 mintes that we were there another 4 aircraft arrived and a couple departed and at one stage there were 8 aircraft on the small parking area and two in the hangers so busier than we expected! ” |
“ | I was asked to out £5 in the honesty box for a PA28, as opposed to the £10 mentioned elsewhere (but couldn't fly in the end). ” |
“ | Lovely little strip, well kept and easiliy identifiable SW of Ledbury near the M50. I flew in from Old Buckenham in Norfolk to deliver a friend there. The grass was well cut with clear turning areas at the runway end. Slight upslope on 25 after you clear the hedge and road (and the startled Sainsbury lorry driver!). No landing fee drop-box .. post your £10 to an address on the side of the hangar.
Despite no facilities, this is JUST the sort of strip that needs our use and support...neat, and tidy. Safe grass strip. Really enjoyed flying in. I'll be back. ” |
