I’ve wanted to visit here for years just to get such a wonderful airfield name in my log-book! We flew in from Weybourne with the greyhounds – an 8 minute flight! PPR is not needed and there are few facilities there as it is really a private owner airfield. However, a member of the MacAuley group was there and let us use the loos at their clubhouse and get water for the dogs. He also told us that we could walk up to the old control tower and even go in if we wished but to take care as it is not too safe.
We took a walk around the airfield perimeter tracks and it was just so eerie. I love visiting old airfields and this one just had so much atmosphere, we could have spent longer there.
The runway is part grass and part tarmac and has to be the bumpiest runway I have used for a long time. However, there were no loose stones and landing fee was a donation, (we paid £5), so we can't complain. I loved the very easy-going access to this airfield and the MacAuley group should be very proud of what they have and that they allow others to use it – thank you!
