“ | Last minute run out to Llanbedr, yesterday, 4/2/19. (Thought it had been closed!) Good brief from the CFI, Steve, with instruction for an email PPR. Grand flight in and out with amazing visibility of the North Wales terrain. Excellent lunch and good value with a varied menu from the friendly staff at the Jindivick cafe. We'll be back! Thank you ” |
“ | Ignore Google and the old company at the moment, http://www.flysnowdonia.com is open for business - and so is Llanbedr (EGFD) which is in range of some truly beautiful coastline and mountain scenery.
Evans is a great instructor - very passionate about flying and you'll see that in his planes. He will allow you to develop your skills at your own pace, yet will often push you a little to stretch your skills and edge you into new learning territory!
The airfield has three super runways - one of which is very long and it's also nowhere as busy as some of the airfields in the south of England can be (when you're trying to practice).
Go take a look.... ” |
“ | I have visted Llanbedr many times and the welcome has always been excellent. We have operated gliders from there over several weeks and I also flew the tow plane during the AFIS was really helpful and easy access to the well maintained hangars was most welcome. The new flying club is also well run and colocated with the really good cafe. You can find more details at www.flysnowdonia.com Facilities in Llanbedr are also very good with well run bars and restaurants. ” |

“ | Regularly fly from llanbedr, great airfield ! Runways excellent, llanbedr Information is superb and the cafe isn’t bad either. Cannot reccomend Stephen Evans of the flight school highly enough, Professional school enivironment, instructor with the right attitude and expetrience. I should know ..... been a student at a Snowdonia Flight School since October 2018, Very pleased with my progress. Mark Rosser ” |
“ | As I entered the door on my first visit to Llanbedr Flight School ( www.flysnowdonia.com ) I was highly impressed by the professional layout of the flight school with many educational posters and whiteboards on view. Stephen Evans greeted me with a cup of coffee and he described the many benefits, for someone wishing to learn to fly, at Snowdonia Flight School. The school not only provides excellent flying lessons with knowledgeable and experienced pilots in the most beautiful part of Wales, but the classroom setting and books along with invaluable tutoring provides an all round package for a future pilot. Stephen Evans runs a friendly, knowledgeable and ideal place to learn to fly and I would strongly recommend Fly Snowdonia. ” |
“ | Always enjoy a visit to Llanbedr. I'll be back when home airfield condition and weather permit.
Ps Stephen at flysnowdonia.com is an extremely helpful chap. ” |
“ | I've flown into here a few times and it is a wonderful airfield. Great facilities, reasonable landing fees (£12 for a PA-28) and amazing scenery. The cafe onsite does a lovely pie and chips and there are a couple of brilliant pubs a lovely 20 minute walk away.
In October last year a new flying school opened there (https://flysnowdonia.com) and the owner is Stephen Evans who is a lovely guy and great instructor. ” |
“ | A wonderful new flying school, made so by the brilliant instructor Stephen Evans.
His natural positivity and enthusiasm helped to ease my initial worries and led to my having an amazing experience.
I can absolutely recommend this flying school - to get more of an idea, look at their website: www.flysnowdonia.com. Lots of information on there.... ” |
“ | Looks like GA is back and running at Llanbedr. Stephen Evans, a committed enthusiastic instructor has launched a new school there and is operating two immaculate and well equipped DR 400's. Www.flysnowdonia.com Also the cafe there is worth a visit and is now well established having been run since 2016 by Ellie Wilkes. Put Llanbedr in your 2019 flying calendar! There will I'm sure be a warm welcome in that outstandingly beautiful part of the world on landing. ” |
“ | I had a flight planned with pilot Stephen Evans, weather wasn't suitable but Mr Evans still made our visit enjoyable with a taxi around the runway and a visit to the simulator and the hangered Aircraft, disappointing day with no flying but really enjoyed our conversation with Mr Evans.. has time for everyone and a very helpful possative gentleman. ” |
“ | Flew in as part of 2016 Fly-UK. Approaches along the coast were awesome, FISO handled large numbers of arrivals with no dramas. Camping on the outside areas we decided to try the café, immediately ordered dinner and booked a breakfast. All food was above average for airfield café grub! 15min walk into the village if you want a pub. Will certainly be visiting again. ” |
“ | Large former RAF station on the scenic coast of North Wales. Choice of several large wide tarmac runways . Very reasonable landing fee and Bicycles are available to get you about, although the village is only 15 mins walk away . Two great pubs with food and accomodation available at the village . Airfield also has a cafe on site. ATC and flying club staff very friendly. ” |
“ | While on holiday in Llanbedr in Sept/Oct 2014, decided to have a quick look at Fly Llanbedr. Met Ed - the CFI and was talked into flying their C150 to Caernarfon to refuel. Ed tokk a look at my logbook and let me get on with it. We flew over to fuel up and returned via the Llanberis pass - a beautiful calm and clear evening. I was so taken with the set up at Fly Llanbedr that I went back later in the week to have another flight. Ed and the volunteers there are really working hard to get their flying school up and running along with a cafe on the first floor. They were at that time about to purchase a second aircraft (type unknown) at that time. An enterprise well worth supporting. I will be back. ” |
“ | Flew into Llanbedr, (EGOD), on 29 June and 6 July to walk the greyhounds. It is really great to see this outstanding facility open to GA and the team at “Fly Llanbedr" are really trying to make this a great destination. The runways are truly outstanding and the location is easy to spot. A/G is used, at present, effectively as a dedicated “safetycom” with calls to Llanbedr Traffic – don’t expect a response. Taxy to the hangars and you will be greeted and let through the security gates. Landing fee was £12.00. Facilities at the airfield: a small kitchen in the original 1940’s control tower, (a disused 1970’s version is on the other side of the airfield), with tea/coffee/cans and biscuits. No seating outside yet, but it is planned soon as is a proper café on the first floor. Opening hours are up to 17.00, although on our second visit, there was only one staff member and we needed to leave by 16.30. Hopefully, this may change as it gets busier. The views are spectacular as is any flight to Llanbedr, (we flew direct from Blackpool over the Snowdonia mountains) as are the views from the ground. On our first visit, we walked up to the village – only 15 minutes. You pass the railway station on the way, (6 minutes’ walk) with trains to Harlech, Porthmadog, Barmouth, etc, if you want to travel further afield. We tried the Victoria Inn and the food is excellent with a lovely beer garden at the back. On our second visit, we walked to Shell Island onto the spectacular beaches – the dunes were like the Sahara! Llanbedr is a great destination and one we will be going back to again and again, I am sure. The locals, the Welsh Assembly and the aviation fraternity have fought hard to reopen this airfield. To keep it going, it needs us to visit. You won’t be disappointed! ” |
