Visited Barton airfield on 17/06/2014 in G-ROLY, a C172 based at Netherthorpe. Outbound routing was via the TNT VOR and then the Low Level Route. We had a transponder failure meaning we called up Manchester approach just to ensure they were happy with our transit. There were no issues locating the airfield and we used 09L for landing. The others were not open due to WIP which was subject to NOTAM.
Landing fee was a little pricey however a great breakfast followed with free drinks using the vouchers provided by the desk on payment of the landing fee.
Seems a busy airfield all in all. Just a shame the runways are not a little smoother, hopefully the work in progress will sort this out.
We departed to the north east and soon entered cloud. We flew back IFR at around 3000ft and landed back at Netherthorpe 55 minutes later.
Looking forward to returning in the future.
