Visited the Charity Fly-in at North Weald today along with 6 other aircraft from our airfield in Sussex. Its a long time since I have been to North Weald and the Stanstead TMZ has appeared in the meanwhile, but it was straightforward once I had reminded myself of the procedures. We were given a specific squawk (not the normal Stanstead listening squawk) when we called for PPR but I'm not sure whether this was just for the fly-in. Class A at 1500' above so cicuits are at 800'. The Squadron restaurant is good, the runways are in good condition and the welcome was friendly. Some interesting aircraft based there - we parked next to three Folland Gnats (now that would be a great weekend toy!) and there were a number of Sukois and Yaks doing their stuff. Well worth a visit

Great airfield, very friendly right from the telephone call when getting PPR. AG radio very clear and friendly. Staff in 'The Squadron' - flying club and cafe also seemed really nice. This is an enormous runway, wide and very long, its easy to spot, and in reasonable condition. There is plenty of activity, and a nice outdoor seating area with picnic tables and what looked like a BBQ for the summer. Vey easy to find - watch out for Stansted CTA at 1500ft. I'll definitely be going back.

have been to north weald many times what a place to visit, loads to see if you take the time to look. home of area 51 jet training so the weekends have lots of jet movements. also lots of other planes there, if you are lucky enough to get a look in the hangers B25, vampire hunters , hueys, seafires, and lots more also lots of JP3 and JP5.

Free landings there, be care full of the height requirement 1200 seet with in 10 miles and 2500 under the london tma.

worth a visit, I have flown a yak 52 there and had a ride in a hawker hunter

North Weald Aerofair
18 May 03
The 2003 Aerofair is a major improvement on previous years being located Southside with far more hard standing available though making the delights of Aces High & The Squadron out of reach to spotting fraternity.

With types ranging from the Raytheon Premier biz-jet to the Polish AT 3 Aero 2 seater & the soon to fly first UK built Jabiru J400 it is reminiscent of the '70s Flight Intl sales days at Cranfield... except for the weather which was damp & blustery.
