Flew into Sywell on Monday 22 July to stay at the Aviator Hotel on site for two nights (and to fly in the Grace Spitfire on the Tuesday). I had arranged an out of hours exemption (free of charge) to land after normal closing time which I used on both Monday and Tuesday evenings, making blind calls.

The Aviator Hotel was excellent as was the bar food at the hotel. One minor issue which I hadn’t expected was that there are security gates from airside to landside and I didn’t have the code on arrival and the airfield was closed….! (Called the hotel reception and got it after a bit of head-scratching!)

Grass runways and the hard runways were all in superb condition, and I ended up being parked next to a Spitfire, P51 and Buchon (BF109 with Merlin engine) – the DR400 was definitely smiling….

Refuelling is self-service, (once set up by the refuellers), and landing fee (£16.50 for a SEP) was also taken by them. Great destination as always and loved every minute.
