26 Feb 2016. Visited Norwich for a meeting with a colleague and was very well looked after by Saxonair. Didn't need fuel but hospitality and coffee very good.
|“||Flew into Norwich a couple of weeks on-route to Germany - Saxonair mandatory handling which is where the £32 pounds landing fee disappears.
Free tea/coffee/biscuits while aircraft was refueled , pilots room was very comfy ! |
|“||I had to fly into Norwich on 4 May for a business meeting. I was pleasantly surprised at the cost of £32 for landing fee, handling and 1 day parking (considering that this is a busy regional airport). SaxonAir did the handling and they arranged fuel, PPR, tea/coffee, biscuits, etc, and had a very comfortable lounge and briefing area. No need for yellow jackets and no pointless security as we do not use the main, (Restricted Area) ramp – common sense for GA at last! Very impressed by their service, especially as they mainly handle executive jets, (I was the only SEP – DR400 - on the ramp amongst five private jets.)
Norwich ATC was excellent and hand over to/from Marham, (I flew in from Blackpool via POL and GAM) was seamless.
I can’t comment on the cafe at the airport as I didn’t use it, but everything else was top class, as you would expect of an airport like Norwich.
A look at the map shows how close the airport is to the city centre. SaxonAir can arrange taxis if needed, but I was picked up by a colleague. If you need to go to Norwich, (which is a beautiful city and well worth a visit), I would recommend Norwich Airport as a very good and reasonably priced destination. There are smaller, less expensive, airfields nearby and I’ve used them in the past and found them lovely; but for convenience, Norwich is (relatively) inexpensive and convenient for what it is, compared to the cost and time to travel into Norwich from the alternatives.
PS – SaxonAir is moving to a brand new facility in a couple of weeks and the shiny new building looked most impressive. I checked that the costs were not due to change due to this and they said not. An excuse for a return visit maybe?
|“||Despite warnings from previous reviews, I called Norwich today and they said all had changed. Spoke to SaxonAir as well to do handling.|
Anyway, it was excellent. ATC were fine, marshalled to SaxonAir (avoid going to the jobsworth terminal!!!), walked into their place (no yellow required!!) and had a free coffee while cab was organised. £8 to Norwich, nice place to visit for a day, returned same way via Saxonair (no terminal issues), walked out to AC and away home.
A breeze, and although landing fee is still a bit lumpy (LISTEN NORWICH AIRPORT OWNERS: "10 x £15 is better than 0 x £30!!!!!!!"), I would recommend anyone to go there.
|“||While ATC was friendly and efficient, the management seem determined to discourage GA; landing/handling fees are stratospheric and security run by charmless, dim jobsworths. You'd have to have a really good reason to fly in here. I had business to do and flying myself in made it very convenient - but I'd do it again through gritted teeth. |
|“||Norwich airport. Easy to find, ATC excellent. Prices do not reflect what is in Pooleys, definitely no discount if you pay up in full and price for aPA28 is £47.
Bus to terminal. Rediculous security procedures, ie take shoes off etc. What if I had had my own tools, knives etc for MY plane....what then?
New MD takes over in 3 days time, I will write to him about the landing fees and security issues.
|“||Visited Norwich this week ( right hand seat ) ATC good and arrived at a quiet time. Instructed to park on apron and like others, bus to the terminal. It was courteous and quick but fees not cheap. Full security when we departed but again ATC got us away quickly. We did try the website and searches to find any GA facilities but nothing showed up. Good day and other than security and cost all aok.
Sandwich and coffee in main terminal side cafe, usual and as expected. There is a full cafe but this was busy.
If anyone knows of GA facilities maybe you could let the forum know any details for other ukga members.
|“||Flew into Norwich a few weeks ago in a PA-28, it cost £42 in landing fee's.
Also when leaving the terminal, we were told to go through the standard departures route, which involved security throwing away the food and drink we'd just bought in the terminal!! Regardless of how many times we told them we were in our own aircraft, they said we had to go through the same security procedures as people travelling with the airlines....absolutely ridiculous!!
|“||Myself and another pilot friend flew into Norwich Airport on 19th Jan 07. We were both shocked to find that the landing fee for a PA28 was a whopping £35 !! |
|“||Norwich is a fair bit busier now than when I went there for my QXC in 2003. I understand there's a new GA centre, but I didn't see it as I was only there for a short time; I was met by a minibus which took me to the ops room.|
Landing fee £13.75 (cash) for a C152.
Food in passenger terminal unsurprisingly very pricey.
|“||Flew in for a club flight. Good cheap landing fees (£10 for the 4 of us) and easy to use facilities. Best resturant is 5 minutes walk (steakeater / happypub type thing) but its better than the airport canteen which is expensive and busy.
Need to take high vis vests. Bused from the aircraft to the checkin and back again. Not really suited for kids if not reined in as you're mixing it on the ground with big jets
