Visited Oxford today (30/09/2016) from Netherthorpe (EGNF) in G-ROLY a C172. This was to attend and renew my MEIR which is almost 12 months old already!
PPR was arranged at short notice on the phone and I filed a VFR flightplan as usual via AFPEx. The flight was 1.2 on the hobbs and we elected a vectored ILS to land on runway 19 with a crosswind from the right. The runway condition is superb as are the facilities at the airport. Today was very busy with good weather and also plenty of commercial traffic and private jets inbound.
ATC were helpful and accommodating.
On site refreshments are of high quality and the general atmosphere is very good.
We uplifted 65 litres of AVGAS and unfortunately as it was not weekend this did not gain us a free landing fee. As such the fees overall seemed a little on the high side for a C172, with £18 ILS fee, £19.80 landing fee.
All the staff we encountered were helpful and I we left after completing the MEIR renewal with a similar route back, tracking north towards East Midlands and a transit via the EME before landing back at Netherthorpe via an overhead join.
All in all a successful and enjoyable day and great to visit a new airfield in the process.
