Flew into Perranporth 28th August 2011 from Elstree via Dunkeswell in G-ERRY an AA5B. This aerodrome is - for me - what private flying is all about. On handover from Newquay the A/G service was clear, helpful and friendly. We parked up, tied down and went to pay our dues intending to stay overnight on a campsite. 'Just settle up tomorrow when you want to leave' we were told. Then the helpful crew in the tower set about phoning to get us a pitch in a campsite. That sorted Ben from the tower spotted us trying to walk there with our gear and gave us a lift. Later we walked over the hill from the campsite into St Agnes for a fabulous (and great value) pub dinner with a few beers, walked back to the campsite and awoke to a clear and beautiful day after a night of sporadic showers. Back early (we thought) at the airfield at 8-45 and it was all go with the tower operational since 6-30. The lady who does the breakfasts was off shopping so someone else stood in and cooked us both an impressive meal so much so that I worried about the weight and balance. Local briefing about WX and advice about routing came free and we departed on the favoured RW (they have three so x-wind is seldom a problem) to go home via Plymouth (sad) Sandown IOW (fabulous) and Lydd (Lydd). If you can go to Perranporth please do! They deserve the custom because the welcome is superb. It's just a very very nice place.
