“ | Now known as The Point at Roserrow. I believe that it's changed hands. Firstly, the landing fee has halved, and it's a much more reasonable £10. Under wing camping available, as is hotel accommodation. And a gym, swimming pool, 18 hole golf, tennis, (driving range being rebuilt). Fantastic food. I'm a bit of a foodie, and this was seriously good food, yet still priced well. The grass strip could be kept better. Although mown, the cuttings were still down, making it hang during the take off roll. It says that there's an upslope from 07, but in fact there's an up from both ends. That's good. Watch for people on the footpath that crosses the runway. And for loose dogs. The footpath is utilised, but not exactly busy. Call for PPR to the Health Club. "What time arrival" "1130" "I'm sorry, there's already someone due then"......Don't worry about it. It's not Heathrow. They aren't ATC. Even their booking sheets don't pass ANO requirements. But do enjoy lunch. 1 mile walk to the beach, or 1600m in new money. ” |
“ | Visited in my X-air on 2.9.09 and was charged an extortionate landing fee of £20. No discount given for a snack in the restaurant. I should have asked about the landing fee when I 'phoned for PP. I left shortly after and went to Perranporth, and what a difference, very friendly and welcoming with very reasonable food and assistance if you need to check the aircraft before flying on. Don't bother stopping at Roserrow go straight on to Perranporth. ” |
“ | Very pleasant strip in a lovely location....PPR essential and check of grass length....took opportunity of the 1/2 price landing fee ( thanks to the LAA !)
20 minute walk down to Polzeath , a traditional seaside resort, but with lots of surfing "dudes".
Good facilities at the attached Golf Club / Fitness centre. ” |
“ | Visited Polzeath over the August bank holiday and it was my first time into a strip since passing my PPL so naturally I was very apprehensive. Did some short field practice prior to coming here and it paid off.
The strip has a distinct rise to the middle of it from both thresholds and the runway also has a kink in the middle of it, so not the easiest when you initially look at it, however it is clear of pylons and trees on the approach so therefore not too much of as problem.
They only cut the grass sporadically and it had been done a few days before we arrived so was fine.
In the end I landed with plenty to spare having flown a low level cicuit to check wind and cndition of the strip, and managed to get out in about 400m using 2 stages of flap in my beechcraft.
It was a great feeling to be able to fly into a "proper" airstrip, tie the plane down then get a cab to the hotel we were staying in. It made the weekend and really felt like proper flying.
More people should try to use this strip as otherwise they may close it through lack of use and that would be a shame.
However I think if they dropped the landing fee to a more reasonable level more people may be tempted to.
Anyway, try it, its in a great place near padstow and polzeath and should be on your list of airfields to visit ( If you can swallow the landing fee that is!) ” |
“ | A delightful prospect, landing at a small grass airstrip on the north coast of Cornwall. Knowing it is on a golf course helped, but there are two courses south east of Polzeath. We found it after several orbits and landed.
The staff at Shipshape, who double as PPR/movement control, were very pleasant, but the charge to land our PA28 was a whopping £20. Wouldn't have minded quite so much if the grass hadn't been quite so long. When I suggested that they might like to trim it a trifle, I was told that the local farmer hadn't been able to fit it into his busy schedule. Yet to reach the Shipshape office from the strip (grass length must have averaged 4-6 inches!) we crossed two perfectly manicured greens with grass height a fraction of that!
Not even a cup of coffee in the members bar next door made up for it! ” |
