“ | We visited Redhill 30th May 2015. The Pilots Hub is a great facility, very friendly and welcoming. They are clearly trying hard to make this one of the top places to go; I think they're well on the way. The food was outstanding, very good value and all freshly prepared. Don't be put off by the 12 pages of instructions for joining, arrival, departure and so on. It's worth the effort to sit outside in the sun and watch the comings and goings. Lovely place, visit soon. ” |
“ | Did not fly in unfortunately due to strong winds at home airfield so drove to try out new Pilot's Hub cafe. Excellent place, clean, comfortable with interesting decor very welcoming people and great quality food and drink. Would highly recommend to all fellow aviators. Looking forward to returning by air. ” |
“ | Visited Redhill yesterday on a freebee landing voucher, nice airfield and very close to Gatwick so you need to have a good look at Pooleys before you arrive and phone for PPR.
Tower was a little in your face but given how close they are to LGW I guess they have to ensure GA knows exactly what they are doing.
Had a drink and snack at the Pilot Hub , a new pilot cafe which was a very relaxed and comfortable, however when we handed over our free landing voucher I did note that the normal landing fee was in excess of £21, which a bit steep considering how little there is there.
very well kept airfield and worth a visit. ” |
“ | Visited with a free landing voucher yesterday. Lovely field. No problems with the joining procedure, VRPs easy to spot, handed over from Farnborough seamlessly. ATC very polite and professional. Catering was nice. After some very reasonably priced lunch and a cuppa we departed low level via the railway VRP which was fun with a lot of chop coming off the hills to the North near Biggin. All in all very pleasant, no troubles with Gatwick zone and will visit again. ” |
“ | Made a visit to Redhill today, haven't been there for a long time. more straightforward than I remembered however this is one airfield where you definitely have to read the briefing notes on the website and call for PPR as you will be asked to arrive and depart via VRPs.
The runway was in excellent condition, however be prepared for some extended taxying between turning off the runway, checking in at the tower and parking outside the cafe.
ATC were excellent and made it all very easy and the airfield is extremely easy to locate as are the VRPs
Cafe hours have apparently been extended and are now published as being 6:30am (!) to 5pm.
well worth another visit ” |
“ | Flew in today and having spent tacho time taxying from the tower to the cafe I had the door literally closed in my face as they shut up for the day for no given reason.
This seemed suprising @ 15:30 on a sunny Sunday in September, especially given their steep-ish landing fee. I was at pains to find out what hours were advertised for the cafe but curiously there is no mention of it at all on the Redhill website so maybe they are distancing themselves. ” |
“ | Hi all,
V
isited Redhill today (18 Aug 09). Had a great morning flight. Landed for lunch which was great. Big portions and good value. ATC were very helpfull. ” |
“ | Flew into Redhill today , very tidy place and very efficient ,atc excellent. visit there web site and down load maps of joining procedures wich is most helpful. Farnbrough are excelent at guiding you round Stanstead , City and Gatwick.,.. landing fee abit steep at £15. if your interested in helicopters its worth a visit as its covered with them. Runway looks like it can get wet in winter. All in all an excelent place. ” |
“ | Reasonably challenging due to its location wedged between Heathrow and Gatwick. Knowing that you will be greeted by full ATC on arrival is a bit daunting (for some of us!) but they are very friendly and easy-going.
Nice setting, though obviously prone to waterlogging as we only had part length of one runway open out of 3 when another grass airfield on the same day was fine.
Well worth studying the airfield layout in Pooleys before setting off as they control all taxying and expect you to understand. I didn't!
I had a free voucher so can't comment on cost of landing though I take it from past comments it is expensive. The cafe terrace is nice if the weather is fine but a bit naff indoors if not. ” |
“ | Redhill has a new Cafe and serves great food.
Landing Fee is expensive but halved if you take fuel. ATC are a superb bunch and have helped me along on my ppl. Get in quick as they might be turning it into a housing estate !!! ” |
“ | Visited Redhill last week and was made very welcome.
ATC did and excellent job with no fuss. They do have a new cafe that serves excellent food. If you are into helicopters then go and have a look around, most impressive. ” |
“ | Very friendly ATC officer, who advised us to ask Thames Radar for a
crossing straight overhead London City Airport. Fantastic views: London
Dome, Canary Wharf, etc.
Redhill itself is a bit boring: no facilities and a hefty GBP18 landing fee. Worth a second visit ... don't think so. ” |
“ | Went to Redhill today on way from Sshobdon to Shoreham but they were fogged in suddenly so diverted to Redhill. Very nice and friendly waved the landing fee and dropped off pasenger as diversion. Did not stay long enough to see anything. Under the gatwick CTA so strict height requirements and routeing. All grass runways so to the first timer might find hard to spot as surrounded by other fields ( I did ). Apparently has waterlog problem in the winter? Found the taxying over the long grass was a pain as nearly full power to overcome the grass. ” |
“ | Landing fee extortionate, facilities nil if you don't count the drinks machine. ” |
“ | Runway 08 Hold
Both the UK AIP AD 2-EGKR-1-1 dated 15th May 2003 and Pooleys Guide 2003 has the holds for 08L and 08R marked incorrectly. The hold for 08L is G2 The hold for 08R is G1 Check NOTAM L0922/03 Airfield Beacon and NDB are u/s until 30 June 2003 Check NOTAM L0793/03 ” |
