Visited Rochester airport on 16/07/2014 in G-ROLY a C172 based at Netherthorpe. Routing was via Fenland and Earls Colne then south talking to Southend LARS and onto Rochester.
We had filed a VFR flight plan and the journey was stress free with good flying conditions. Upon landing we were assisted in obtaining fuel and parking G-ROLY near the pump.
We then went to the tower and settled the landing fee and fuel, there was no discount for landing for purchasing fuel as well unfortunately.
We had hoped to look around the fuel pump museum but it was closed however we did manage to have a tour of the MAPS (MEDWAY AIRCRAFT PRESERVATION SOCIETY LTD) and the Short Scion restoration project, this was very good and the guide was great.
Lunch was in the airfield café and the more usual burger, fries and salad was the choice of input today. A reasonable £9 for 2 including drinks was paid as well as cake to finish.
The airfield seemed very busy with lots of aircraft visiting and based there. There is soon to be a major reworking of the airfield including a tarmac runway so looking forward to revisiting in the future to see how things have come along.
