Saltby Airfield

Submitted by: martin hands

Principally a Gliding Site (Buckminster Gliding Club Ltd) but with Motor Glider and Microlight activity. Visitors welcome, refreshments available, contribution to runway fund appreciated. Winch launching takes place up to 2000 ft AAL (on a good day!) so no overhead joins.

Phone 01476 860375 for PPR.

See official site for details.

Flew in to Saltby today and got a very friendly welcome from the folks at Buckminster Gliding Club who operate the airfield.

Had to collect an Ebay Purchase from someone close by :)

The main runway is 07/25 which has a vast 1200m x 45m of concrete (which is in excellent condition) and an adjoining 950m x 50m of grass. Today we used the Grass which was available as no gliding was taking place. We were only visiting for a short time so parked next to the Fuel point. Light refreshments are available and a cup of tea was made for us at the clubhouse / office. Normal circuit calls should be made on the Saltby base frequency of 129.975. For obvious reasons powered aircraft should not join overhead. There are no landing fees, but donations towards airfield maintenance will be much appreciated.
