Microlite meeting 25th June 2005

Photographs of the Meeting held at Sandown Airfield, Isle of Wight. The weather was very kind & conditions were excellent. The attendance of spectators was also very good & the restaurant/cafe area was well supported. Shame it was eventually burnt down. I took the photographs whilst on the Island visiting family.

Sandown IoW - flew in from Halfpenny Green. A really nice airfield, runway & taxiway were fine. Some rabbit holes & molehills to watch out for - I gather the club volunteers are working on various improvements to the airfield.
Made very welcome, and assisted with fuel collection from local Morrisons (thanks to the 4*4 driver & his wife and thanks to Bob for the jerry can). Must remember to allow more fuel for the sight seeing around the island!
Half an hour walk into Sandown (beach) for lunch, so didn't try the airport cafe.
Landing fee £5 (microlight) good value.
Busy airfield. Wonderful spot.
Will be back.

Great News for GA. Sandown is under new ownership and very much open for business. A great place to fly to with stunning scenery and a very nice welcome indeed. The Café was still under construction when I last went over there but the temporary café was still producing some proper nice stuff.
I am bias because I come from the Isle of Wight and the two guys that own it now along with the rest of the team really deserve your support and you will not be disappointed.
s this.

Sandown Isle of Wight -- recently purchased by two autogyro pilots and oozing with hospitality. New café almost ready but the temporary one was doing great. New fences, car park and loos -- all very good news for GA. Can't wait to get back there.

Flew to the Isle of Wight for the first time today and in fact the first airfield that I hadn't flown to with my instructor prior to getting my PPL. Radio service was very friendly and helpful and, knowing it was my first visit, I got turn by turn taxi instructions to a prime parking spot in front of the tower. Fortified by a ham sandwich at the cafe, the friendly cafe lady phoned a taxi to take me into town which has lots of shops and obviously the beach. Will definitely be coming back.
