“ | Visited on a sunny November day - surprised how many people were about and how many were flying.
A very pleasant and friendly airfield with a very smooth tarmac runway (though it is narrow!). A cup of tea and a bacon butty were £4 and I also got a Happy Face biscuit - in the Happy Cafe.
Landing fee £10. Most arrivals take you through Doncaster's Controlled Airspace but they were very helpful and friendly.
Not much to see and do in the area but an ideal trip for a bacon butty land-away. ” |
“ | Wow some good news fellow flyers, Just opened up The Happy Cafe at Sandtoft with loveley ladies serving brill food and the refurb is brill. It provides families and flyers the opportunity to have a good visit at this air field with smiles and good service . I am a flyer out of Sandtoft and would urge all past members and flyers alike to take a visit and support this new venture and bacon sandwiches. You visit would be incomplete without looking at the new Helli facility which is attached to the field and Cafe. I can`t state enough how wonderful this facility is , well done Amanda and others can`t wait to go back on Sunday. ” |
“ | Visited Sandtoft on Saturday 1st March 2014. Very friendly and helpful on the phone before setting out and equally welcoming on arrival. Easy parking, just walk across the active runway to the clubhouse and Skyview Cafe which is excellent. Nice menu, reasonable prices. East Mids and Doncaster both very good en route out and back from Turweston. ” |
“ | Update on previous - not discounted landing fee - its just £5 for microlight (C42)!!!! ” |
“ | Flew into Sandtoft yesterday (19th June) direct from Halfpenny Green (EGBO) with a transit through Doncaster controlled airspace. Assisting with collection of flex-wing aircraft.
Interesting landing over the packed vehicle storage areas (runway 23). Discounted landing fee. Not a lot going on at the airfield but enjoyed the food & drink. Also had meeting with client, so all & all, a good day's flying.
Positive comment on Doncaster APP who were very helpful in approving a direct transit from M18 to Sandtoft. (No transponder) ” |
“ | Visited Sandtoft on Wednesday 27th February (Courtesy of Flyer Voucher) in an EV97 Eurostar, made most welcome and the food very good and reasonable ” |
“ | Flew to Sandtoft on 13 June 2012 two-up in Skyranger Swift. Very friendly lady on phone beforehand and on radio. Easy parking (wear high-viz bib). Sausages and chips appeared very quickly, followed by free tea and cake (included in £10 landing fee). Great view of runway from cafe conservatory enables critique of other people's landings. Refuelling was made easy as the bowser truck comes to the aircraft. It's well worth the trip to this friendly airfield. Cake may affect weight-and-balance. ” |
“ | Trip from Nottingham to Sandtoft today. Warm welcome and free tea and cake for the two of us included in the £10 landing fee. Sat in the clubhouse conservatory and watched a Cesna doing circuits battle with a slight cross wind on what has been a very blustery day. Talked to Doncaster Radar in and out, who were also friendly. Appears a well maintained and friendly strip. Worth a trip. Sandtoft site warns of possible wind shear on approach to 23 and there was quite a bit of turbulence coming in over the industrial estate but no real issues. Did not see any briefing facilities but I would guess at such an apparently well run strip there would be something. ” |
“ | A real gem of an airfield! Friendly staff excellent facilties, well worth a trip. ” |
“ | I went into Sandtoft yesterday for my 3rd time, and since they have had the runway resurfaced, it is a beautiful little airfield. The radio service that they provided was very efficient and friendly and the £10 landing fee was nothing compared to the fact that you get a free cup of coffee and slice of cake. We would definitely go back in again and again! ” |
“ | Visited Sandtoft on Saturday 11 July inbound from Blackpool and outbound to Carlisle.
Easy to find and an excellent service from Leeds and Doncaster radar inbound to the friendly A/G service. We've been before and knew that finding the airfield is fairly easy. (Just look for the 3-4,000 stored vehicles on the airfield.....!)
The runway is well used, but not too bad at all and there is ample parking, with an interesting walk across the active runway to get to the cafe and control point. Landing fee was very reasonable and the cafe excellent and very friendly with nice outside seating on a sunny and warm summer's day.
Keep meaning to visit the bus museum nearby - saw an old single-decker drive past the end of the threshold just as we had landed. One day maybe....
Nice airfield to visit for a bacon butty and tea (Earl Grey available! - always gets extra marks from me) and a nice flight to and from over interesting scenery. ” |
“ | I flew into Sandtoft last Friday (19th September) and i was very impressed with the airfield. The approach to runway 23 was very good and exciting for a young PPL pilot. The runway is a little bumpy however i was told that they are having it resurfaced by the end of the year. The A/G was good and we had no problems making contact with them and Doncaster Radar. We stayed briefly and had a coffee in their really nice Cafe which is well worth visiting, very cheap and very tasty. The welcome we got was fantastic and everyone was very friendly. The office has self briefing facilities so we could ring up the next airfield we were visiting. This is a must go airfield and with the landing fee being £5 for our Piper Tomahawk i would go back again and again. ” |
“ | Great flight to Sandtoft today ( 23 July 08 ) Weather out of Blackpool was very hazy but cleared towards pole hill.
Easy airfield to get to and find. Lovely welcome on ringing on PPR and same when in radio contact. No problems with Doncaster ATC and they were friendly and helpful.
Nice cafe and good service. All in all worth a visit and it will be another one to return to.
Leeds ATC on the way back were great as usual

“ | Flew into Sandtoft today on one of my regular visits to a local sale. I thought I was at the wrong airfield there was a long line of aircraft including 2 Diamond twins and many other singles also helicopters. It apears that Sandtoft has been taken over and the training from Sheffield has moved there. They were very busy I hope it remains the freindly place it has always been ” |
“ | One of those GA airfield gems. A great place to either stop off on the way to somewhere for a snack or to make a day out for and indulge in the sunday lunch. Staff are unfailingly cheerful and welcoming. Briefing facilities are readily to hand in the tower but as most of the tower staff fly as well you can usually get the local gen. The runway is ok - tarmac but somewhat intimidating on the approach and it can produce fine nosewheel shimmey as its a bit rough. Having to backtrack for the parking can also lead to all sorts of complications with some of the resident operators !! ” |
“ | I am a young pilot just starting my lessons and I have been to Sandtoft many times. The staff are very friendly and I have never had any problems. The food is great and the instructor is very helpful. Overall a great airfield. ” |
“ | ![]() Well worth a visit.

“ | I fly with Leeds Flying School out of Sandtoft, the runway is nice, although watch you dont get too low on approach to 23, the lamposts come up to meet you very fast! Sue's Diner is a must, from sarnies to full blown roasts you cant go wrong. Fuel is becoming less of an issue now as LFS have based aircraft there so fuel is being brought in more often. All in all top notch ” |
“ | Visited on 21st November 04 in a Beagle Pup out of Bagby, EGNG made very welcome, a nice place to visit. Sues Diner very good. ” |
“ | David, why didn't I read this before I went yesterday!!! no fuel, unscheduled trip to Sherburn!!! Grrrrrrrrr ” |
“ | Been there many times on trips from the Sunny South. Very friendly and accommodating - but never seem to have fuel! Always worth checking in advance to save unscheduled fuel diversions on the way home. ” |
“ | I flew into Sandtoft on Saturday. Interesting place, with lots of old aircraft, in varying states of dismantlement, lying around.
Also, sat having a cuppa, and watching a Jet Provost on finals, before it touched down 10 metres away made a change.
As for the AA missiles by the club house, I'm glad I'm not on the business end. ” |
