Pilot reviews of RAF Shawbury
A few days ago through the auspices of ESFC at Tatenhill I had the opportunity to pay a visit to RAF Shawbury which specialises in helicopter training for all 3 services.
The supervising officer said they always welcome visiting GA pilots and clubs but they need to be prearranged.
It was well worth the visit, what was really amazing to myself was that circuit traffic at Tatenhill some 30 miles away was visible on radar. IE 1500 feet amsl 1000 feet agl.
On the other hand they have difficulty seeing you south of the Wrekin or behind many of the other hills or even when hidden by ground clutter from the Welsh hills to the west or north west.
Shawbury also appreciate people contacting them when in the AIAA even if not transiting the MATZ.
It is a VERY busy site and they appreciate any cooperation we can give.
Have you visited
