“ | I was on a flight which had to divert into Sheffield City recently due to low-lying cloud over the Pennines and beyond. With no PPR, the tower guy was very helpful as were Lynn and Dawn at reception who assisted in getting us some accommodation at short notice. The guys at TAMS, John and Andy, were exceptional for an enroute repair and without exception, we received nothing but help. I must heartily recommend Sheffield City as a GA stop.
It's unfortunate that long term plans for GA are not good since the runway is likely to close, with helicopter activity becoming the main focus. But if I'm over there again, I'll drop in and say hello. Thanks again. ” |
“ | i flew in to sheffeild last year november december time. found it very help full place free landing with 50 litres of fuel. busy with other GA flying schools.
as mentioned before ring for PPR they send you a form for joining circuit height and noise rules.
landing fee was only £10 if not fueling. ” |
“ | Flew in to Sheffield today (Sun 7th) in PA.28 G-BPRY taking advantage of the free landing fee voucher in FLYER.
Make sure you fill in the single engined PPR Request Form found on the EGSY website at...... http://www.sheffieldcityairport.com/pinfo.htm ....and fax it to them well in advance of your trip. Then give them a call before departing on 0114-201-1998 to make sure they have it. If you're flying in for the first time, make sure you read the pilot's information - its nice and simple. We arrived from the south, reported in just before the VRP at the M1/M18 junction 32, and got a straight in downwind at 1500ft on the QFE for rwy 10. A sharpish turn on to finals to avoid flying over the city and a quick decent. All very civilised and a nice friendly guy in the tower to assist. We arrived to find an apron full of aircraft, almost all singles !!! Seems the vouchers were working. Over 20 aircraft in total noted on the ground with the most interesting being a Chipmunk and an ex Navy Wasp !! Hi-viz needed for all on board when walking the short distance across the ramp to the modern terminal. A quick check-in at the Info Desk where our voucher was taken. Sadly the good looking cafe was closed - amazing really with so many visiting light aircraft - perhaps they hadn't appreciated just how many would turn up on the free vouchers, especially on such a nice day. So we made a quick departure to Gamston - no need to book out, just a quick call on the radio. Verdict - nice airport, friendly ATC, nice looking cafe - shame it was closed !! ” |
“ | Flew in twice within 3 days, 3 weeks ago. Concur with the other reviewer about acceptance to singles which is what I used, first time in a club 172 and then in my shared PA28.
Difficult to see when approaching from the North but the white roofed business park parallel to the runway is easily seen and runway just south of this. If doing a left hand downwind for 26 watch out for the massive quarry which can produce hairy turbulence whilst turning left base! No food when there but I believe plush cafe should now be open. Very helpful ATC and staff. ” |
“ | I flew into EGSY last week, WOW it has changed into a GA friendly place. the tower guy was very good , the security which used to be OTT has been re-jigged and singles are now welcome. I look forward to going there again. ” |
